ms2/extra runs stock FC!
I finally got the time to mod an MS to use with ms2/extra.
It runs pretty nice, smoother than ms1/extra.
I'm running the full stock igniton, with an unmodded CAS, and stock leading + trailing.
The mods to use it are basically the same as ms1/extra, except for the second trigger input to the ms2 chip.
The only issue I had was with noise on my 2nd trigger input... so after studying what other manufacturers do on their VR conditioner inputs, I put a .1 capacitor from G+ to ground on the input to my lm1815 circuit, and that cleared the problem right up.
We'll be driving one of the rx7's down to the megasquirt meet near Richmond VA this coming weekend, and tuning the ms2/extra while we're there.
Anyway, that's it for the update, just wanted to let people know that ms2/extra runs the rotary with no problems!

It's more stable in some ways, less in others... configuration is a LOT different..
We may eventually sell an ms2/extra-based product; but we need to get production sorted out so we can keep up with demand first.

That's awesome. Good job! My 12A is humming right along w/ the MS2/Extra 1.0 beta code. Image of window sticker for new toy attached.... Finally got rid of the 04 automatic. Huge difference!

Basically, I'm using one of my MS->FC adapter boards that I designed originally for ms1/extra.
The only difference between what's in the FAQ for required modifications, and what I did here are 1) the capacitor that I added to the lm1815 circuit, and 2) the output of the lm1815 circuit goes to "JP4" on the ms2.
Other than that, it's exactly the same as the FAQ, including the use of pullups, which LED does what, etc...
If there is anything left out, or anything in the FAQ or here that you don't understand, ask that specific question, and I'll do my best to answer it.

excellent news Ken! ... quick question tho for the lm1815 part ... this .1 capacitor ... anything special or just any will do? ... did you go to board ground or external?

I just basically connected the G+ and G- wires where they attach to my daughtercard..
I used a .1 uF ceremic cap that I had lying around. I don't think it will matter that much as long as it's .1uF, and ceremic.

If you don't mind too much please take a look at the procedure I compiled from the FAQ thread, this thread, and other sources. As I was trying to understand exactly what I have to do I found that I had several specific questions. The compilation can be found in the following thread... Thanks!!!

On a sort of related question... We have been considering converting my wife's S5 over to MS and will be doing just what you did more or less. Trying to keep as much as stock and improving where required. About how long did it take to do the conversion excluding tune time?

I didn't do a "conversion" really...
I have an S4->MS adapter board that I designed. I just used that, plugged it into my car, hooked up the MAP sensor, and fired it up. That's all there was to it.

So while I would be building Acidshocks computer I could just make a board that takes the MS pinouts and runs them to the stock ECM wiring using a scrap ECU for the connector...?

just reading this. that's great news Ken.
i watched your presentation also, looks like some interesting things developed for MS2.
i have an unassembled MS1 V3.0 kit. is there any way to get just the MS2 chip without having to get the whole MS2 kit? what else would i need if i could do that?

Ken,
Couple of questions:
1) What are the perceived and then (now that you actually have it running) actual benefits that you've experienced using MS2Extra vs MS1Extra?
2) When you say "configuration is a LOT different" - what exactly do you mean? I've been poking around the MegaTune interface with MS2 extra and haven't seen anything that looks too drastically different!
As you may remember I'm about to go from a fuel-only setup to a fully ignition-controlled setup on my V3 board. I'm now debating using MS2Extra but would love it if you could answer the above questions!
Thanks in advance

Also, there are a lot of new options for setting what to use as load, dual load... load is settable for spark independently from fuel, EAE is now incorporated, etc...
