I bought a car with Megasquirt...
Hello,
My name is Vincent and I am new to the forums. I recently purchased an 89 T2 that has Megasquirt V3 installed on it to run fuel only. I bought the car in Tampa where it is considerably warmer, and here lately with the cold whether; I'm having a hard time getting to car to stay running on startup when its cold outside.
The car runs good when its warmed up, except it has an incredibly high idle, 1500 to 1600 rpm's when warm. Also when the car is warming up, the idle just kind of goes up and down randomly, like it doesn't know what to do when its cold.
I have an .msq file that came with the car and I have tried downloading the software, but it doesn't make any sense to me. I'm used to tunning with HP Tuners for my Cobalt, but I have never messed with anything like this.
Any help would GREATLY be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vincent.

Thanks muythaibxr, I have ordered the boost/vac checker from boostpro.com to check for vaccum leaks, and I will be getting a serial to USB adapter so that I can try to hook up to the megasquirt and try to adjust the cold enrichment.
Another question is, that when I go to Megasquirts website to download MS 2.25, it's very confusing as to exactly what it is I need to download. It just has this list of folders. I downloaded what I thought I needed, but when I installed it, it doesn't run right.
I know I probably just need to sit down and take the time to read every little detail, but why do they have to make everything so confusing? I mean even the smallest issues on the website have a 4 to 5 page essay for you to read through and most of it is if you run this, or if you don't have that, or if your only running this.
Is there another website out there that has everything explained in better terms that's more suited for second gen RX-7's.
Thanks again,
Vincent.

They have huge explanations for everything because they want you to understand the "why" behind everything. It's supposed to be educational.
Also, it's confusing because megatune can be made to support 6 or 7 different firmwares with nothing more than ini file changes. You have to get the right ini's in the right places, and change settings.ini to the firmware you want to use because of that.
I'll be able to help you more with your setup once you determine what firmware you're running on the MS, and whether it's an ms1 or ms2.

Thanks Ken, I have ordered my usb to serial adapter from diyautoparts.com and I should have it in a few days. Hopefully I will have my boost/leak dectector by then too. He may just have it idled up because there is an unsprung clutch in the car.
I will be contacting him to try to get a better explanation as to what he has done with the car. But he must of hacked into the factory wiring harness. Cause the only extra wire that I see going through the firewall is to the front ignitor, along with a vaccum line, which I guess is the signal wire and vaccum source for the MAP sensor for the ECU.
Thanks again dude!

just took a peek in your msq file, it has the following version info:
author="MegaTune 2.25 p1"
writeDate="2007-11-11T12:11:49-05:00"
fileFormat="4.0"
nPages="13"
signature="MS/Extra format hr_08 **********"
I think that is an MS1 chip, but im not sure- hopefully with this information others can help you a bit easier

That's MS1-extra "hi-res" code HR08. It has increased accuracy of injector pulse-width resolution over the std MS1-extra code.The trade-off is with low-imped. injectors this code requires the use of ballist resistors or a commercial "peak-hold" injector driver(fjo,aem,etc.). It also has just the basic injector staging scheme(i.e. single parameter,no staging buffer).You should upgrade that to release "HR10f" that's out now,as it has some bug fixes that may be helpful.

Thanks for the replies. Now I just need to figure out how I can get it it working with my laptop with usb. I bought a usb to serial adapter from DIYAutoParts.com and its suppose to work with Vista. I have a copy of his software, I think its just a matter of copying all the configuration files from his copy over to the installed copy of MegaTune on this computer.
As for upgrading the software, how would I go about doing that?
Thanks everyone,
Vincent
