car not warming up properly!!
Hey guys, well i have the zeal plug'n'play MS, and i've had it installed for about 2 weeks now,
Cuz my car is actually a daily driver for now, the MS was just laying on the passenger side floor until now, everything was running fine, car would warmup to about 170 - 175 degrees F. and would probably reach about 185 degrees F while pushing it.
So well i had a few days off from work, so i installed the wideband and decided to mount everything properly, and clean up the passenger side compartment.
Now after getting everything done, and mounted and etc etc, now when i start up, the car warms upto about 118 degrees F, and no more, and while pushing it, it maybe goes upto about 122 degrees F. which i find to be quite weird??
What could be effecting this?? Could one of the wires in the harness be a little pulled, and could that end up doing this?? Because that is all that had changed when mounting everything, even after the wideband install i started up and it would warm up properly, then i moutned everything, and all of a sudden it doesn't fully warmup.
The reason i'm asking is because i have some warmup enrichments set at those temperatures, which i believe could come in the way of tuning the car properly, because what i read from the 02 sensor includes the warmup enrichments.
So what do you guys think...
My car;
86 GXL
ac/ps removed
air pump removed
afm and map removed (after MS install)
custom exhaust/ and cone intake filter (need to still create a cold air box)
megasquirt installed (and WAS running fine, and still is accept for warmup issue)
I think those are mainly the important mods that u would need to know to help on this issue, its still got stock clutch fan and radiator... but everything was fine until i actually mounted the MS...
So i guess the only thing i can come up with is that when moving everything around if pulling a wire a bit and having it not have a proper contact, could cause a lower temperature reading?? Otherwise what would you guys suggest i check??
Sorry for the long post
And thanks in advance!! The help is appreciated.

Did you happen to change the firmware? IF not then I'd suspect mechanical issues.
I guess if you moved some wires around and caused a short in your harness it might cause a problem too...
When you turn on the MS on a cold engine, do the air and coolant temperatures match? Are they about the same as the outside temperature? If so, I think you have a mechanical problem.

Well no i have the firmware that came on the plug n play unit,
I was gonna goto the new msns-e stuff, but haven't yet.
Yeah, with the car off and sitting overnight, the temps read generally the same for mat and water maybe about 5 - 10 degrees off but i suspect that to how different materials can hold heat for different periods of time, i'm guessing it could be my thermostat gone again, but i replaced the damn thing with a new mazda piece about a week - 2 weeks ago, i wonder what could cause the thermostat to fail quickly. - i geuss thats a question for another section , but thanks for the help, next week (when i have a few days off) i'll take everything apart and inspect the wiring harness for any shorts.
Thanks again guys!!!

yeah, if the temps are off by 5-10 degrees there could be another problem too... they should be off by no more than 2-3 degrees after sitting over night.
So it *could* be something electrical.
I doubt that it's in the MS->rx7 adapter as we heat-shrunk each wire individually on both ends... We also stress-tested all the solder joints to make sure they wouldn't come loose...
The coolant and air temperature sensor readings will be very sensitive to shorts though due to the way a coolant sensor is read (sensor is one side of a voltage splitter ... the processor essentially reads from the middle of a voltage splitter made up of the bias resistor, and your sensor).
An easy way to see if it's electrical, and if it's our adapter is to unmount the MS again and unbend any wires you bent (relieving any stress caused by bending). If doing that causes no change, then there is either an electrical problem in your stock harness, or a mechanical problem (or very bad stress damage to the adapter).
If you have any more questions just get in touch with me or tofuball, and we'll take care of it. I don't want Zeal support issues flooding the forum. I'm going to close this thread for that reason.
