84 GSL-SE w/ S5 engine and S5 intake

Want to megasquirt this thing and need some advice on what setup/kit to buy.
84 GSL-SE ha S5 na engine with S5 intake and GSL-SE front cover and dizzy.

I'll just use the distributor at first untill I can decide on the best ignition system.

Want to use the 5/6 port acutators and VDI. Intake is not installed yet.
I do not have a air pump or brackets, but could find one if that is best way to run
the actuators.

Have 2 sets -SE low imp 680cc injectors (4), and 4 of the S5 high imp 460cc injectors, should I mix them like the Grassroots car,(if so use the smaller ones for primary or for secondary)(and does it cause any trouble using low imp for one bank(stage) and high imp for another?) , or just use the S5 ones that came with the intake setup?

Suggestions?

Thnaks!

I'd just get an ms2 v3 kit if you want to build it yourself, or a v3.57 kit otherwise, also with ms2.

I recommend using the stock 2nd gen ignition system if you have it. That's what GRM used, and it's well-supported by the MS.

This should be easily done using a couple of spare outputs (IAC pins will work) on the ms.

My suggestion is to just use the 4 S5 high-impedance ones. High impedance are easier to deal with and won't require any PWM tuning, special wiring, or resistor packs.

Staging is easier to tune with equally sized injectors as well, although I'm working on some code (written, but not tested yet) that will make it easier to get a smooth stage too.

Thanks for the info

I'll be building it myself. so v3 kit then, will I need anything besides the ms2 v3 kit to run the FC coils and CAS?
Do you recommend keepin the factory IAT and TPS from the S5?

You'll need to build a 2nd trigger conditioner circuit for the S5 with an lm1815. You can build that yourself in the proto area, or get a daughtercard like this one from DIY:

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/z...ers-p-378.html

You *can* use the TPS and IAT... I've always just used the stock wide-range TPS and the stock IAT on the S5. To use the stock IAT you need to get a 30-50k bias resistor to replace the existing 2.49k IAT bias resistor.

Most if not all of this is covered in the FAQ though.

I'm building the v3.0 kit now with the zeal rx7 daughtercard

I'm following the instructions to build it for the stock FC ignition system (CAS and FC coils)

but I want to run it at first using the stock GSL-SE distributor system

I will switch to the 2nd gen CAS system after it is running well with fuel only

what changes will I have to make to the MS to first run it on the GSL-SE distributor?

I assume that the 1st gen ignition has its own module for rpm-based timing, and a vacuum input for vacuum advance..

If that's the case you will build the MS without any pullups or anything of that nature, and you'll need to build it for coil-negative trigger instead of VR trigger, and wire the MS's tach pin directly or through a resistor to the leading coil's negative terminal.

Then when you're ready, you'll have to switch over to VR and add pullups and wires to the LEDs for ignition outputs.

You'll probably want a 30K resistor in series with the coil pickup to avoid noise.

Reading through your writeup Aaron, I think it might just be better to go straight to the FC ignition.
I'll post updated info as it comes together

Hey Green Lantern,

My car was the one featured in GRM and I am just down the road from you in Daytona. You are more than welcome to check it out for comparison sake. I am hoping to eventually move to a S5 intake and utilize the VDI and 5th and 6th ports.

Unfourtunately I am probably the last person you want to ask on details about the swap. Ken (muythaibxr) and the guys at DIY did all the work. All I did was gather some parts and stand around looking stupid.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thanks,

Greg

very cool
I'll pm you when I can get away from town
I'd like to check that out and compare notes on the S5 VDI setup
