When can we expect the finished product

I was just wondering when we could expect shipment.

Thanks

racerxrx7 04-06-09 08:19 PM

approximate date please?

When does the ship date start?

viciousNY 04-10-09 04:47 PM

I'm guessing sometime in the not-too-distant future.

JKL Racing Engineering 04-17-09 01:30 AM

Sorry about the late reply, been overloaded lately so barely got time to check the forum.

Since the factory is currently lined up with projects, they being really slow on our projects since we threw too many prototyping projects to them at one time. Specially for this wing, they have to test out if the added core structure will work during the production. So it is taking longer than we expected. However, we will push them to complete the prototyping in the next couple weeks so we can get things rolling back on track again.

RacerJason 04-17-09 10:59 AM

Thanks, will follow.

viciousNY 04-22-09 03:46 PM

Cool!! I'll be checking back.

jimmacsrx7 04-27-09 06:31 PM

I just sent in my deposit.Hope it is going well.
Jim

JKL Racing Engineering 04-28-09 12:00 PM

jimmacsrx7, are you interested in FD or FC version mount?

For those of you sending any type of payments, please make sure your forum username is included in the paypal title and your order details is included in description. Thanks!

Thanks to viciousNY, we have gotten a template for FC mounts so we will try to have a pair of sample FC mounts machined and have the wing fitted locally once done to see if the mounts will work well. If so, we can provide the wings directly to FC owners.

Great Googgelly Moogelly!!! I did something good! HA! bump.

Zyon13B 04-29-09 07:53 PM

I'm interested in a CF one for an FD.

Beast From The East 04-29-09 08:39 PM

I might be persuaded....

After seeing the GOTO:TAPPED 66 car at Thill last weekend, and assuming this wing is the same as is on that car, I could be persuaded to join this (FD, CF). Do we have final pricing yet?

I really need the downforce, as I'm running more power than the 66 car and power drifting through turn 7.......

Beast

viciousNY 05-01-09 06:05 PM

Beast... I believe the final pricing is located in the 1st post of this thread.

As far as I know, it has not yet changed.

integlspwr 05-02-09 06:52 AM

im still interested in the wing.

can someone measure how wide apart the stands are?

im worried my s2000 trunk my not be wide enough and it might ending mounting onto the body of my car vs the trunk.

Zyon13B 05-05-09 02:07 PM

Do you need more deposits to get this going, or is this already in progress? I'll gladly throw in.:)

JKL Racing Engineering 05-05-09 08:07 PM

This project is already in progress since we already got enough deposits to initiate the GB. However, we have changed our GB policy a while ago so only those who send in their deposit during the first production batch will get the GB discount. In other words, once we pass the test fitting session, the official first production batch will start. Then we will close this GB once that production batch is completed. After that, prices will go back to retail level.

So when does this mean we will get our wings? :) I'm looking to do some track events with wings.

JKL Racing Engineering 05-11-09 10:19 PM

We are trying to keep things moving as fast as they can. But then, we have multiple open GB's as well as several background projects going at the same time so things do move slower than usual. So we will definitely try our best to have these ready for you guys asap. First of all, we will need to test fit the sample unit before we can proceed so it really all depends on how quickly the sample unit can be finished and tested.

JKL Racing Engineering 05-12-09 02:51 PM

Update:

There are some changes in the reinforcing strategy that is being applied for the wings. The tech guys at the factory have estimated the weight increase for both aluminum tubing and honey comb core techniques but end up with the final weight of the wing being way too heavy. They were also afraid that the aluminum tubing might break free from the resin foundation then move freely inside the wing and cause internal damage. If other hardware are applied internally to secure the tubing, it will add even more weight. Honey comb core is also difficult to work with due to the surface curvature of the wing in some area.

So what we have figured out is to add extra layers of reinforcing materials internally around the area between the two mounting points. The extra materials will be applied all around the interior to maximize the reinforcement effect. This way, we can minimize the weight addition while increasing the strengths. We are now sorting out the final cost estimates on the CF wing because we are thinking about adding CF layer as reinforcement if it is cost effective.

More updates will be posted soon! Thank you for your patience!

Josh18_2k 05-12-09 10:14 PM

+1 would like to know the distance between mounting points.

An update would be appreciated. Please verify any progress with the FC mount fabrication and test fitment with pics.

JKL Racing Engineering 06-02-09 09:18 AM

Sorry about the late update:

We should receive the sample FD wing by the end of this week or latest early next week. Then mounting results will be posted. The FC mounting bracket template we got needs to be modified and redrawn in CAD since the dimensions won't work for this wing. So as soon as the tech guys at the machine shop finishes the brackets, we will be able to have the wing mounted on an FC car.

We apologize for the slow progress on these projects lately. A lot of things have changed due to the economy so we are trying our best to keep everything on track at the factory.

jimmacsrx7 06-10-09 09:55 AM

So is this wing for next years track season? I am still holding out hope of getting it on the car for this year. Let us know how things are progressing. Thanks.
Jim

JKL Racing Engineering 06-10-09 10:21 AM

The sample has arrived and will be test fitted these couple days. Results will be posted as soon as they become available.

We will do our best to push them out asap. So if the test fit results do not require major modification to the molds, the production can start very soon. We apologize for the delay but we have to make sure it fits before start producing in quantity. :)

JKL Racing Engineering 06-12-09 12:58 PM

Alright here are the test fit pics. In case some of you wondering why the side plates were not installed during the test fit. Two reasons: First, the test fit was just to verify the fitment and quality of the wing. Second, we want everyone be able to tell that this is our wing instead of the original since we are using the same car for test fitting of both wings.

burtoncr 06-14-09 01:31 PM

Wow, looks really good. Couple of questions:

1) How wide is the wing (endplate to endplate) in millimeters?

2) Will the wing mounts that are riveted to the bottom of the wing be smooth in the final run?

JKL Racing Engineering 06-15-09 01:41 AM

Thanks for the support!

1) The wing is approximately 1650 mm wide from end to end.

2) Are you talking about the surface finish of the mounting flaps? If so, no, we will not put a clear coat on them because clear coats will crack very easily due to the fact that the screws are putting stress on the pieces and will cause the surface coats to crack after time. The purpose of applying clear coats is to protect the CF from UV exposure but since these mounting parts are below the wing and are not exposed to UV as much so clear coat is not as necessary.

One change we will be doing to the mounting flaps is to thicken them. The original version seems to be a bit too thin for serious tracking application so we will be thickening them for a more stable and long lasting mount.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!! I can't wait to see the test fit on the FC. I'm very interested to see what direction was chosen for the mounting braces! So far it looks good though.

RacerJason 06-23-09 12:57 PM

FC update please...

JKL Racing Engineering 06-25-09 09:09 PM

FC test fit will be performed as soon as we get the brackets. We are still waiting on the machine shop to complete the FC brackets which should be done during next week.

limbar85 06-25-09 10:06 PM

Maybe it was covered already, but will the FC mount bolt to the hatch or body?

JKL Racing Engineering 06-27-09 09:17 PM

The FC mounts will be really similar to the RE-A ones as shown here.

Hip hip hurraayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!

Beast From The East 06-30-09 06:21 PM

Sure could have used it last weekend at Infineon.....may have helped stop my spin out of turn 6.....almost shat myself. Got a lovely view of what the hill looks like travelling backwards towards turn 7....whee!

Updates?

Beast

KaiFD3S 06-30-09 06:38 PM

Just a note to the FD guys when installing this wing, the notch part in the back of the bracket should be over the tail light, that is the reason why it was built that way so that when you close the trunk it wont hit the tail lights...

If you look at the picture it is too far forward..

Wing looks good, starting to miss mine...

racerxrx7 07-01-09 10:05 PM

Wing shipments

Just wondering when are you planning on shipping the wings out. I have some track events that I'd like to enter and it would be nice to have the wing.

Let me know.

Thanks

Aldo

JKL Racing Engineering 07-01-09 10:20 PM

Beast, glad to hear that you got some exciting time at Infineon. Hopefully no more backwards views after you put the wing on. :D Gd luck with your future events!

The batch production on the wings have just started and will be continued after the holiday. Since we are having a fairly large batch produced, it will take at least 2 -3 weeks to complete. Meanwhile, the machine shop will also start producing more FD brackets while waiting on our fitment confirmation or necessary design changes on the FC brackets. They will probably also become ready by the same time when the wing production is done.

Brent Dalton 07-06-09 05:29 PM

I recently picked up an Authentic full CF RE-Amemiya wing like the one they are replicating and thought I'd post my thoughts on it after driving wingless at VIR Saturday, RE-Amemiya wing at VIR Sunday. I have no affliation with JKL other than purchasing a few parts from them, but I'm sure there version will perform the same as this one.

One thing I should mention is that I have the taller brackets than the one in the video and the one being replicated. I drove all day Saturday with no wing at VIR and the car has always started to feel really light around 120mph, almost to the point that it makes me uncomfortable(that is any FD that I have driven on a track). I drove all day Saturday, picked up the wing Saturday evening from Fritz(who strongly urged me to put it on the car that night), put it on the car, and drove on Sunday with the wing. Before I can even say anything, my passenger comments on how incredibly stable my car feels going through the uphill esses's at around 110mph. I can feel it start to stablilize the car around 80mph and get progressively better as speed increases. I was expecting front end lift, but did not encounter any and reached speeds of around 140mph. I will still be adding a splitter though for extra downforce. Here are some pictures of it on my car to give some of you an idea of what it will look like without a widebody kit. Keep in mind that my brackets are prob. 6-9inches taller than the ones being made by JKL. A couple of pictures:
http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...e09/VIR034.jpg
http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/b...e09/VIR052.jpg
And yes, my exhaust is hanging low in the picture because it came out of the bracket. I had to safety wire it after that session to keep it in the bracket :). The stock black piece is off the bottom of the rear bumper because I am adding the RE-A street diffuser. If anyone would like to see some more pictures, and JKL doesn't mind, just let me know.

Brent

afgmoto1978 07-06-09 05:54 PM

Kool, I'm planning on doing brackets similar to that.

Beast From The East 07-06-09 07:07 PM

Bracket height differential = ?

What is the collective wisdom about the fact that that JKL brackets are lower than many other wings out there? I'm sure that if a wing is too low it is out of the slipstream and unable to function optimally, and convesely if it is too high it likely mucks with the handling/weight/effectiveness of the wing. Someone skilled in aero/fluid dynamics please respond, not someone who says 'it will make it mad quik, yo'.

Memphis, that wing really matches the esthetics of your car - that's a very clean machine, unlike my multi-colored due to fading red Beast (shiny red hood and fenders, dull red roof, pink mirrors). I also agree on your comments about lightness after 120mph, and I have the R1 model with wing, hitting around 147 mph on the front straight at Thunderhill. Would really like to gain the stability you mention......

JKL Racing Engineering 07-07-09 01:52 AM

Bracket height does affect the performance of the wing depending on what car you are attaching the wing to. For a sports car such as FD with a more aerodynamically efficient top, specially rear hatch area, the clean air zone is much lower as compared to a sedan type rear design, such as a BMW. In other words, our car can have a wing mounted much lower and still perform well as compared to other less streamlined cars.

BTW, just got the FC prototype brackets today. We have arranged an FC for test fitting but the car is currently in a body shop so if any other SF bay area local FC is willing to show up for a quick test fit would be more than helpful. Just shoot us a pm or email to let us know your availability. Thanks!

viciousNY 07-07-09 09:23 AM

I'm just drooling to see the test fit pic's on an FC!!! LOL. Hopefully someone local is willing to show up for the test fit, I'd do it, but I would have a lovely cross-country drive to get there.

viciousNY 07-09-09 11:16 AM

Hey guys, I'm hoping that this request isn't going to mess things up too much, but I would like to change my order from FRP to Carbon Fiber...still for the FC. Do you mind?
