Smile GB:NGK Iridium Racing Plugs and Power Cable Racing Plug Wires

Here is some good stuff for your trackers/racers. We are now planning on importing some NGK Racing Products for both FD and FC if we can get enough interests.

NGK Iridium Racing Spark Plugs R7420
These racing plugs were used in the RE-Amemiya Super GT car with heat range 10.5 & 11. According to NGK’s research, the Iridium central electrode spark plugs are better in performance, ignition efficiency, and longer lasting than the regular platinum plugs (for example, R6725 platinum racing plugs). The R7420 racing plugs are designed for RX-7 rotary engines (both FD and FC) and are available in four heat ranges: 9, 10, 10.5, 11. These plugs are designed for track use/racing purposes only, so they are not for daily drivers.

As for now, these plugs are very rare in the US and are not sold in Europe yet. We are importing these straight from Japan.

Pricing Info:
We only offer the plugs in sets of four of the same heat range (ex. four 9’s or four 10’s). If we can get total 5+ orders on the plugs (total 20+ plugs), then we will be able to get this GB going. It is possible to buy two sets of heat ranges if two buyers are interested in the same combinations, we can arrange that for you.

R7420 (available in 9, 10, 10.5, 11): $124 (per set of 4 plugs) + US domestic shipping

Additional Item:
NGK Power Cable Plug Wires
These are the high performance spark plug wires NGK offers. They have a much lower resistance than the regular plug wires so that they can deliver more current to increase the ignition power. They can deliver 30% more ignition energy. These are also available for both FD and FC. Retail price for FC wires in Japan are around $125 and FD wires are around $105 then plus international shipping costs.

Our discounted GB price: (we will need total 10+ orders to get these prices)
03Z (FC3S): $110 + US domestic shipping
04Z (FD3S): $95 + US domestic shipping

Out of curiousity, what is "better" about these 9's than the stock NGK 9's?

The differences between the racing plugs and regular plugs generally come out in how broad the spread of the sparks being generated and the efficiency of the spark generations in higher RPMs. The regular plugs will cause more misfiring than the racing plugs in high performance applications.

Just a brief summary of some additional info found on NGK's website:
Since racing applications are usually running rich, the racing plugs are designed to withstand the thermal shock and better prevent pre-ignition and overheating since they can release heat faster. The Iridium racing plugs require much less voltage to generate the sparks as compared to the platinum plugs, so they can ensure a higher ignition consistency.

If these were made to last longer, and resist fouling out, then why wouldn't they be advised as street plugs since most of us run 9's all around anyway?

It's simply because they are not designed to be run frequently in low RPM or idling situations. And you will experience rough idle or even knocking since these plugs were designed to run with racing fuels that have much higher knocking resistance than regular pump gas. So if your car is tuned for high psi singles that runs on racing fuels all the time, then you can still use these plugs whether or not you run on the street.

Don't these plugs still have to use the thinwall socket for installation?

I believe so, but not 100% sure since I have not used these myself. I can find out about this info if this is really that important.

Do the plug wire cause any problems with radio noise?

Someone has informed me that there is actually a local retailer that has a lower price on the Power Cables than our GB price here. I will try to talk to my suppliers in Japan to see if we can beat that price, if not, we will pull the Power Cable out of this GB since we do not wish to rip anyone off.
