Yet another Rx-7 back on the road.

So, first time on an auto forum. I'm Vince, I'm from So-Cal and I just bought myself an 86 Rx-7 GXL for 200 bucks. It needs love, obviously but for a running Rx-7 for 200 it's a steal.

Anyway, it's my first manual car, my old car which I just sold to pour the money into this one was a 93 Nissan Maxima. Nice big sedan traded in for a peppy sports car. Why suddenly change from a comfy automatic to a machine like the Rx-7? Well to make a long story short my friend saved our asses from getting into an accident with his mastery of a stick shift. Had we been in an automatic we probably would have gotten pretty messed up.

So I took to the task of getting a manual transmission vehicle and low and behold I managed to wrangle an Rx7. My other friend is a rotary nut and he rolls around in an 04 Rx-8 so he's always going on about the Wankel which is why I chose it. A few Craigslist ads and I found my current vehicle.

As I said before it needs love. I had it looked over by a local rotary mechanic and got it to running condition. Yet to really test it's potential as the tires need replacing and I don't have enough money right now to get the registration up to date.

Haha, forgot to add photos and couldn't do it until it went through. Here's just a few I have so far. I was working on it tonight, just little things. The face for the instrument cluster was from a stock 86 Rx-7 so I had to pull the right set of buttons to have a rear wiper ****. Seems like there's a short somewhere because the wiper likes to move on its own. D< The pictures are from when I first got it, I'll take some tomorrow and post them of whats been done so far.

get a clutch fan and radiator shroud. thats a lot of car for $200 though. the s5 tails, aero mirrors, aftermarket seats, straight body and interior make it so ****** worth it. you could sell the set of tails for 100-150 perhaps to the right person. welcome to the club. how many miles are on that beast?

EDIT

Here's the pictures I took today after a much needed wash. So far I've got a fan clutch in, a shroud I picked up at the Pick-A-Part, new NSK sparkplugs and a new Mazda thermostat.

I got this stock seat from a 91 rx-7 because the racing seats don't fit the rails and I don't have enough money to get them attached by my mechanic.

I had a question about this if anyone can answer it. Since it came with an aftermarket radiator, it has a cap and the previous owner hooked both hoses to the overflow tank and apparently popped a hole in the cap. After about 15 minutes or so of driving it spews out very hot coolant from the hole. I told my mechanic and he told me since it needs to relieve pressure it's spraying out and once the level in the overflow tank goes down it'll stop. I removed the tank, cleaned it and put enough of the mixture inside to go right above the full mark. Do I need to put another hose going to the floor if it needs to relieve pressure or just leave it as is? I'm a noob with the rotary so sorry if I'm confusing with the terminology.
