So why did I buy an RX-7?

Hi Everybody,

We all have our own answers to that question but here is my story.

I have always admired the 3rd Gen. RX-7 but couldn't afford one when they were new (though I tried, boy did I try!). I have always driven sports cars (nothing too pricey, just the absolute best I could afford at the time) and the 3rd Gen’s designer Tom Matano is a personal friend of my family. Though I’ve had other sports cars before and since my first attempt to buy an RX-7, whenever I saw a nice one the desire to drive one every day (or almost!) was rekindled.

Last year I started to look at them more seriously with an eye to buying and, after more than a year of lurking on the forum, learning a TON about these cars, and saving, I've taken the plunge and purchased my first RX-7.

Last Tuesday I picked up my 1994 3rd Gen. RX-7 from its 3rd owner in Sacramento, CA. The car is a Silver Stone Metallic Touring Edition with a red leather interior and has 45k miles on it since new. I've always admired this particular color combination because of its reference to the famous Mercedes Silver Arrows race cars from 1954/55 and it is exactly the color combination I wanted back in 1994. The car looks virtually brand new, has had all the recommended reliability mods, and drives beautifully. The car has an R2 front spoiler, R2 front strut support, and the rear spoiler.

After picking up the car my wife and I took the “Silver Bean” on its first road trip on the way home to Southern California. We drove down the legendary Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Cruz to Los Angeles. It was a car guy’s dream come true; beautiful car, beautiful road, beautiful babe. Too bad she got a cold and spent most of the drive asleep in the passenger seat. It was great fun watching her head bob from side-to-side as we swept around the bends.

I’m looking forward to learning more about my new car on this forum and thank you all in advance for the information I’ve learned and am going to learn from you! I’ve already spent many hours lurking and going through the archives and look forward to many more now that I have my own 7 in the garage.

G.R.

Nice FD.

Usually people buy their first RX-7 out of sheer ignorance. The second one is because for as much pain as they cause, they secretly turn you into a masochist. You can never have enough RX-7.

Hi All,

Thanks for the thoughts on the car.

I know that there has been a lot of debate on these forums as to the value of our cars these days. I have followed this closely over the last year or so and what I went looking for was at the high end of the price spectrum.

I specifically wanted a car that was low mileage, as original as possible, with many of the reliability upgrades already done. I wanted this particular color combination and I wanted everything to be functioning with a complete service history. Ultimately I found all that (it took a while) and this car came with all of those qualities plus brand new tires, new brake pads/fluid, new battery, new oxygen sensor, and new Tokico struts, along with a few other goodies like the R2 strut brace, R2 front spoiler, downpipe, etc. The car needs absolutely nothing and my plan is to keep it in this condition, with no further modifying. I have all the parts to take it back to completely stock condition if I desire.

Before purchasing the car I spoke with my insurance folks, showed them some pictures, and they told me that since the car is a 15+ on their ranking system they would insure it for $24,000.

So what did I pay? I paid a bit less than that at $23,500. Some of you will think this is too high and I know this. But for me it was the right price for the ABSOLUTE RIGHT CAR at the right time and I am happy with the value I got. The time was right for me and I went for it. It is my hope that our cars will all hold their values over time and I bought mine to DRIVE!

I look forward to being part of this group and thank you for the warm welcome. If any of you are in the Los Angeles area and want to go for a drive sometime let me know.

I found that connector you were looking for
Cindy, is this the thing you were looking for?
www.liangdianup.com/computeraccessories_1.htm
It's on the list of computer accessories and parts. They have the DVI video thing to convert that jap monitor to work with your other computer. Just about any other kind of wire adaptor, usb connectors, monitor extension wires, ps2 extention wires, and all kinds of female and male swap connectors and things that I think would help your shop. If that above link don't work then goto www.lducompany.com and click on computer accessories. Let me know if that is what you need and give me your email address again.
