RX7 TII S4 from Germany
Hi,
my name is Thomas Müller and I'm from Germany. Don't know if my English is 100% correct but I'm trying my very best. Sorry for any mistakes. I recently sold my BMW E39 523 because it got a bit boring. It's simply too heavy I guess. It was my hobby so did a lot of modifications on the car and even repainted it in frozen grey like the new M3. Here's a picture of it:
After selling it for a good price I needed a ney hobby. At first i wanted to buy a Nissan Skyline R33 but I didn't find a good one. Instead i found an old dirty red sports car in one corner of the courtyard of a local dealer which got my interest. It looked pretty much like a Porsche 944 at first sight but something was strange with it. I came a bit closer and found out it was a Mazda RX7 Turbo II S4 which i only knew from TV. I got the key (only one was left) from the dealer and tried to start it. 2 seconds after turning the key the engine was running. Then i spent nearly 1 hour crawling underneath it, looking at every corner and trying out all the electrical switches and so on. No rust at all but some minor electrical problems like not working lamps in the air conditioning unit, a not working front-passenger window switch and strange behaving wipers. It also had a broken windshield (which became one of the biggest problems till now) and the rear right shock absorber was leaking.
I bought the car for 3500€ which should be round about 4800$ at the moment which is not that bad because there are only rond about 30 RX7 TII S4 coupés left in Germany and good ones are sold for about 9000€ (12400$) if you find anybody who sells them. One week later it was standing in the garage of a good friend who is an auto mechanic master (some people say he is married with a car). He helps me to restore it. This is how it looks like right now:
3 weeks ago I started collecting the needed parts from all over Germany and even from Austria. I think i got most of them now but i'm not 100% sure. The hardest thing to get was the windshield. Because the car is that rare in Germany nobody sells new windshields for RX7's anymore. There were 2 options: I could have waited about 4 months for a custom-made windshield from England which would have costed about 1500€ (2000$) or ,what i did, have driven 1200km (750 miles) to Austria and back in 24 hours to get a used windshield for 200€ (275$). By the way i also got new Bilstein B6 shock absorbers and some Lesjöfors springs. Now my car is nearly ready. I allready read many threads in this forum and managed to fix many problems on my own like that stupid wiper switch relais but there are still some small problems with the engine and some gauges are showing wrong informations.
This is my RX7 story and why i'm here now. I hope some of you guys are able to help me with my last few problems because in Germany there are nearly no experts for rotary engines and even less for special RX7 FC things.

It only looks like it is in a great shape at the moment. Many things to do. There are some dents and the red is pretty worn out but i think those are the smallest problems.
The biggest problem at the moment is that the engine slightly shaking when it's idling and i can't find the reason. The rpm guage isn't moving while it's shaking but you can see the engine turning a bit to the right in irregular intervals. Really strange behavior.

You might check to see if one of the motor mounts is broken. I know one of mine is and it does shake a little bit because of that.
I have fond memories of spending time in Baumholder when I was a bit younger.

hey welcome!!!! i think on the fc's it seems to be a common problem with the shaking cause the motor mounts usually go bad you'll probobly want to invest into some solid mounts which would fix that problem.....nice car for the year of it, it looks great!!!

Those are damn good news. I bought Mazda Competition Engine Mounts from Racing Beat today. Hopefully these mounts will fix it. Would be soooooo cool if that's the reason.
By the way I also ordered new reinforced front and rear sway bars and adjustable sway bar end links. I wonder how nice the handling will be together with my new springs and the Bilstein B6 shock absorbers.
Oh and i got it through the German TÜV today without problems... maybe because the 2 guys checking my car never ever saw such a car before.
