RX-7 time machine!
Hey I'm new on here, my name is Joe & I bought my '83 GS in October of '08. Since I live in PA, this car is not for winter, it looks like this car has never seen road salt. With only 45k miles on it, I'd say it's not seen anything much but the garage! Anyway, I was an '80's teen & getting in my car is like going back in time! I love to get in & crank up the '80's music & re-live those "glory days" (that's another '80's song!) back when I still had hair! LOL!! This car is completely stock & in great shape! I got the front bearings re-packed, differential fluid, & air filter replaced. I replaced the back window lift shocks & got the back 3 windows tinted. The drivers behind me were blinding me with their headlights! The window tint was the best thing to do to the car. It makes it cooler inside, too! My car has the sunroof too, so it's almost like having a convertable when you take that off! I did put a 10 inch subwoofer in back right behind the driver's seat & mounted a sub amp under the driver's seat, the stereo is stock other than that & I was able to tap into the wiring to use the sub amp with the existing audio. I use an ipod with a cassette adapter & it sounds pretty good to me. My 17 year old son gives it his stamp of approval if that tells you anything. He's got 2 12's in his Eclipse! I also replaced the bad power antenna, the previous owner gave me the power antenna that he never put in. It turns out that that project was a pain in the butt. No wonder he didn't do it. I haven't gotten into much modding, I'm wondering what that would do to the value of the car, not that I plan on parting with it! I got the antique license plate for it, so it's registered for as long as I'm alive if I never decide to sell it. This car is basically not costing me much of anything to own compared to my other vehicles. It's just a fun ride to cruise around in in the summer. As you can tell I'm a big fan of the car. Glad I'm not any taller though, or I'd never fit in. I'm 6'2" tall & 230 lbs. Hope this site helps me keep this car on the road a long, long, time! Oh, also I have the original window sticker from when the car was on the lot along with the dealer pre-delivery checklist & all the previous 2 owner's (I'm number 3) papers. That's got to be rare today to have that stuff along with a low mile car. I'm proud of my car!!!

Yea, sounds like a great car, would love to see photos.
Awesome that you got the window sticker too!
hmm, I wonder if the power antenna is any easier to replace in an '88 (mine doesn't go up, but the radio still plays ok)

I'm 12 miles north of Pittsburgh. I forgot to say I had to replace the battery & I put new spark plugs in her. I think they were the originals. Used the anti-seize on them & bought a torque wrench just for the job. The previous owner gave me his Hanes book for the car which had a lot of good info. The air filter must've been the original, no crap, the paper had no give to it at all, it was like it was petrified. The top & bottom of the filter were metal & the top said Mazda in blue letters. I saved it along with anything else I do to it. I've tried to keep it stock or at least make it so I can take it back to stock without too much agravation. The transmission is a 3 speed automatic though, the tach is at 4k when you're going 65mph. So much for gas mileage! I get like 18 mpg, which is about on par with what i've heard from the 12A. I'm wondering if you can use the 10% ethanol gas in these, I'm running the 87 but use only BP gas so far since it's not the mix as far as I know. So far I've only put on about 1,400 miles on the car since I got it. I would like to put the universal power lock kit in the car so I can use an alarm to unlock the door when I hit the disarm remote. I'm spoiled by today's modern conveniences. I don't think that would take the value of the car down, do you? I was thinking of the electric fan to get a little more horses out of the engine. Not sure how that would be received though. Bottom line is I'm not parting with the car for a long time & I'm only so worried about resale value so much, but I think it's cool to see the way things used to be. I'm torn on whether I should start this kind of modding. I'm still learning on how to put pics on here, will try & get them on here soon.
