Hi all! I'm glad to be part of this fanclub. I'm pretty inexperienced in rotary engines, but I heard so much about them I'm really considering buying a 3rd gen RX-7, cuz there are many garages here in Montreal willing to sell many 3rd Gen RX-7 for a pretty good price. I'm 17 and I got my driver's license, and I would like to know if it would be a great start in the driving experience. I'm a big fan of Rotaries for 5 years now!

I know alot about pistons, but rotaries are so different it's almost like I don't know a thing about internal combustion engines anymore. I'm here for the same reason, wanna learn.

 

rotaries V.s piston... rotaries are unbelievably more simplified than pistons. its like dating... you can choose to go with those good 'ol "christian" girls and know that your gonna get your junk knocked one way or another, and then there is the girl from across the park* being piston*. you arent sure of it, or even what will happen. could end up walkin away with a few more fancy little abbreviations to say to the next girl.. either way, rotary FTW

 

rotaries are more simple than piston engines. IMO they are more easier to understand. even im still learning about them. i know how to take care of them. but tuning them is my weakspot . thats y im here

 

hey wutsup. im here because i want to know more about the rotary motor. i mean i have a basic knowledge of them and for the most part how they work. ive even takin one apart in class but they just went over the motor briefly for one day. but besides that i have no clue wut you can do to fine tune those motors. its a mystery to me...

i actually just bought a rx7 on valentines day. im 17 also, and as soon as i bought it i came on here. so its easy to learn about them just keep on checking things and try and learn as much as you can about them.

I was big into the dsm world, had a 12 second talon. Now i'm going to attempt to build a complete drift car out of a 87 rx7 that started out as non turbo. So this should be an interesting learning experience.

 

fyi you should know they cost a butt load of money, even if you think your getting a good deal your guna get boned trying to repair it. bought mine for 5500 and put 10000 in it. tranny went out/clutch/ecu many things can go wrong. just make sure you got some spare cash to the side before you buy it. mine had 90000 on it so i thought it was a steal

 

Aye, I understand ya. Still putting as much research as I can into Rotories. Still a bit iffy on understanding them but I'm learning it.

Heres hoping were all as lucky putting them back together as taking them apart :p

 

I wanna learn too...so used to Hondas.

 

Personally, getting a late 80s model rx7 (FC) would be a better rotary to learn on.

They're cheaper and it's easier to find parts for 'em.

 

Just some basic words of advice.... READ!!! New posts everyday on here..... oh, and learn how to use the SEARCH function... sometimes its hard to find the info you're looking for, but 90% of the time its already been asked and answered. And this goes back to the whole READ part. There's a wealth of information in here... you just gotta look for it.

 

yea my rx is deff a love-hate relationship. its a 90 vert with 80000 miles and im in the middle of doing a five speed swap cause the auto went out right after i made my first payment. talk about suck. lol but i love the car and wouldnt have it any other way except for another supra.

 

I know about piston engines but my rotary knowledge is there just all theoretical.

I'm 18 and bought an FC a month ago, which I thought was a steal for the mods it has ( FMIC, Boost controller, Adjustable coilovers, $2200 exhaust system, Microtech LS10 and some nice rims.)

But then I blew an apex seal and now the car needs a rebuild

Either gonna be doing it myself or might get a shop to do it, till deciding

Rotary love though, i can't ditch the car even though it blew up on me!

I also have a TR magna which blew a headgasket and destroyed the motor. $2200 to fix at mate's rates.

Mz20 soarer which developed a big end bearing knock.

And now a blown up RX-7.

I swear I have the worst luck with cars it is not funny.

Get a fwd slower car for a first car, then get the 3rd gen

 

Well, I can use my parents' car, its a fwd. Later on I'll get the RX-7.
