Opinions Wanted FD or FC
Ok, Back story, I did own an 87 na rx7. That was a project that never got off the ground. The engine ran strong, but it was a piece, dented to hell and suspension track was off but bearable. That being said I loved the car, it was a lot of fun. I am in a much better financial position now, and I am looking to get another 7, I am just very torn as to which to get. I have always wanted an FD but I would love to see my FC dreams realized as well.
Now, I wanted to get some opinions. I would buy a decently modified car either way. I am not going to do everything myself. That being said I would obviously be buying a more heavily modified FC being that I can find one for cheaper. The car itself will be strictly for enjoyment, I have a 07 tacoma, as well as an 05 yamaha r6. I will be using it to go to the track I'm sure, but I would like to be able to drive it to work every now and then when I look at it in my garage(and get that itch). For the FC I would stay under 350 hp I'm sure, with the FD, I honestly dont know, I'm sure I would go a little bigger, but not much.
So question is FD or FC, we all know that both are great cars. We all love them both, but I'm torn.... Could you guys throw in your .02, and help a guy out... I need some opinions....
Thanks

I personally would go with the FC. I've always been in love with the FC, moreso than the FD. Plus, trackability I'd say the FC is a better performer, and for the cost of even a stock FD, you can get a heavily modified FC. For the 25K price tag of many properly modded FD's, you could almost go 20B. If it's a pleasure vehicle strictly, go with the one that gives you more pleasure.
When it comes down to it, Price per Fun, the FC will always be a better deal.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, it's all based on 2 things: Personal preference and your financial status/standings. A decent/very good condition FC can range from 2500-4500 depending on what model/series/mods (GXL, GTU, T2, 10th A.E., etc.) Also it's history will play a part in buying that car or not, based on previous owner usage (involved in an accident, deemed totaled then refurbished, how many engines/trannies/rear ends it's been through, was it well maintained, etc.) And of course, the body style. Sleek and boxy at the same time, it holds the O.G. appeal to it as does the SA/FB models. As for the FD, I've seen them on here as low as 6000 with no previous problems/accidents. Base model, mind you. Get into the R1's and such, now your cost is going to go up. Mods already done? Tack up the price some more. Mildly modded FD's are looking around 11-13000. Body style here, whether a body kit is on or not, will turn heads for sure no matter where you go. Pricing on parts will vary between the two by hundreds in the chassis and body category, but since the 13b's are similar, engine components won't be too far apart in pricing. So all in all, it's personal taste (which catches your eye harder) and which your finances can handle, cause either way, it's an RX7 no matter how you look at it. You could have a sh**-box looking 7 for all I care, but because you have one, you have one. Period.

That's wrong, big time. I'm a personal advocate of the FC before FD fanclub, but the FD will trounce an FC at the track. As a current FD owner, I say get the 3rd gen, its worlds apart from the FC and wont let you down when running right. Also with the aftermarket on the FC falling and parts getting harder to find for the car, it make little sense to buy an FC and beat the hell of out of it.

I say get the FC. Its a better/cheaper track car than the FD and much more fun to drive(imho) Also if your looking for the best bang for the buck the FC is the way to go. Keep in mind that Ive owned both and the only one still around is my prized FC.

thanks guys. If I bought an FC it would be a turbo 2, I've actually got a couple that I have seen around me that seem to have a very straight body, and supposedly are mechanically sound(still have to go see them). As for an FD I would end right where some have said, with a lightly modded one for around 13-15ish, and build that one a little slower.

As for model, if you're going to build the car up, it doesn't matter anyway; If you're going to put coilovers on a car, does it matter that it had a beefier stock suspension?
And as for CYM, in case anyone's unaware, it's the color Competition Yellow Mica. The OP seems to be debating whether to do an FC or an FD on the low-end of FD money. CYM cars, as a general rule, sell for on the higher end of FD money.

Ok heres how I see it. For the price of a clean Mostly stock FD You could have a bad *** TII FC.. Think of it that way
FD Here in washington sell for 14-20k
A nice Stock TII In washington 4-6k So if you got a clean TII You have probably about 15k to drop into it making it a bad *** TII Then having a stock FD...
Its all about what you want
i want all 3. Working on getting an FB right now. FD is later on for me!

I used to drive the **** out of my FC. Midnight fun in the mountains all week long, then I'd drive it down to Laguna Seca and absolutely drive the living crap out of the thing, then i'd drive it home, change the fluids and do it all over again.
Now, with the FD, I baby to the track, hope it doesn't find a way to strand me while I'm there, drive the crap out of it, and HOPEFULLY (I'm 2 for 3 last summer) drive it home at the end of the weekend.
The FD is much faster and more balanced then the FC was, and when it's running right, it's got some serious potential on the track, but the FC was way more reliable, tossable and ...'trustworthy' is the word I'm looking for I guess.
For the record, my FD's been in the shop for about two weeks with a mystery fuel leak....exactly the kind of **** that would never happen with my FC.

I've never owned an FD but keep in mind that you can have a 400whp+ big turbo FC for the price of a stock FD. If you are into turning than the FD will always be faster in that department due to the superior double wishbone suspension design.
It depends on whether you want a nice comfortable (think interior) fast car or a straight up big turbo/track prepped monster. 350whp is cake for either car, a stock port BNR Stage 4 FC could easily reach that. I think it is all personal preference.

I'm an FC owner, had a few... even though I've had like 3 in 4 or 5 months... long story. In both cases of FD's and FC's, both turn heads. You could drop about $8,000 into a FC chassis and come out with a truly sweet, modified ride, trackable and eye candy. I would consider a FC a classic.... maybe in a few more years. You could go with an 80's look, or go with a newer "drifter, rice rocket" look. A clean, upgraded TII would be pretty sweet, turning heads and would give you a satisfying feeling that you own a piece of history.
Since you're in a pretty good financial situation, you could turn to the FD. I mean, I still consider it as a Japanese supercar, I mean seriously. a 1993 taking on modern day sports cars. of course they're a bit pricey, but I would say it's worth the buck.
I've never owned a FD, or actually driven one, but I would have to guess, and I'm pretty sure most would, that a FD has more potential than a FC, unless you get paid about $50 million a year. That's another story.
i wonder if this even helped.... oh well
