Noobs: Has anyone ever run up on you?
Just within the past few weeks, I've run up on people with RX-7s.
First guy was at a fuel station. My girlfriend had just graduated college and we were moving her stuff up to my place. We stopped at a Sheetz in Staunton, Virginia, right off of I-81. She pulled her Accord to the pump and I pulled my White 1988 FC right behind her. My girlfriend went inside to pay and I stood by her car.
A black S4 GXL (1988 as well) with rear window louvers pulled in and parked at the convenience store.
When the guy got out, I said, "Nice car." He waved at me, then I pointed at the FC behind the Accord. He smiled and came over to talk.
I started showing it off and popped the hood.
He noticed that my alternator bolt (The long one that the alternator pivots on) had backed itself out and was hitting the radiator fan. He helped me get the alternator back on properly and on my way. Had I not stopped to talk, I would never have noticed. The voltage gauge was still reading good during the drive.)
He had never heard of the forum, but he said he'd check it out. He had just gotten his car from a relative and was enjoying it. Someone had run up on him a few weeks ago in a similar situation and he got waves from other RX-7s on the road. He definitely felt the cult following of these cars.
More recently, I spotted a Light Blue (Arctic Silver) base model S4 FC (1986 judging from the steering wheel) in a parking lot near the Fairlawn/Radford, VA Wal*Mart. I decided to leave a note:
The parking lot served a couple stores where I noticed there was only one store open, a small Sun Tanning place.
I stopped in and the guy was kinda bewildered. I dunno if he was used to people talking abou this car. He did know that it had a rotary engine, but hadn't been to the club. I introduced myself and shook his hand, told him what was on the note, and said goodbye. I had to get going to finish helping my girlfriend clean out her apartment for our final weekend in Radford, VA.
Were any of you new members introduced to the forum in a similar fashion?
Or perhaps you are one of the above people?

I was in the market for a '73 Falcon XB and talking about it at school when one of my buddies that works for NASA told me check out RX-7s. I bought one a few weeks later on eBay and signed up for an account on rx7club. Honestly, who could deny advice from an astronautical engineer?

I actually got intro'd to this board by a buddy of mine who bought an RX-8 after his return home from Iraq. He let me drive it around town, and it got me hooked on rotaries. After I picked up my Turbo II, he pointed me to the boards, and now as of having had my car for 3 days, have seen 2 others... a 10th AE RX-7 and a black unknown RX-7.
Hopefully I see more...

Not quite a noob but your post made me laugh. Every time I see an fc or fb I always leave an rx7club card....usually a peice of paper thats been rolling around in the floor board.....I would leave them on fds but fd owners usually dont like people looking at their cars, let alone touching....lol...anyway, my first fc was when I was 17....it was an 87 turbo...have had one on jack stands every since.
