No Carmax, you can't have this car
Just bought a 94 Rx-7 from my dad. He was going to let Carmax have it. It runs great as far as I can tell and I know he has taken good care of it over the years. My first question for this group is; if I want to maximize its value, do I mod it or keep it all stock? I know in some circles, any mod is undesirable, but not sure with this car. Thoughts?

Well it depends on what you mean value. Do you mean the value for resale or do you mean value to yourself?
If its the value of the vehicle for resale, it would be best to keep it stock since most buyers aren't really looking for modded vehicles. Modded vehicles are all based on personal preferences.
If you are looking for value to keep it for yourself then it is what you feel like doing. Just like in my case. I don't think I will ever sell my FD so I will be modding it to add personal value. It will make it something I enjoy and put heart into. Something that I can actually call mine.
Regards,
Dave

As any car across the board, unless you completely turn the car into a winning track only racing machine, the highest money value will be stock, as close to factory show room quality as possible. But its an Rx-7! The car was thought up, made, and sent to the show room with performance at the top of the priorities! So if Rx is the rotor in you heart!, then build that bad boy and show us what you got!!!

One the one hand I want to let it do what it is meant to do, which is fly. On the other hand, I love the car and want it to last. The original engine has 90K miles on it. It's been treated well all these years, but might not last with mods even if I do them right.

oo go ahead. good long life street mod car. just dont overly build it. 8-10 lbs boost, induction, exhaust, and management system and you still have a 120,000~150,000 mile engine then rebuilt and go for more.

I'm new here but in general stock is better for resale value. I just bought a 91 turbo II and its bone stock. also i found out recently that there are not many examples in the states of my year make and model so I personally will probably keep mine stock. I do plan on getting a full racing beat exhaust system but I will be keeping the stock exhaust system boxed up in the garage. If you mod keep the stock stuff if you do plan on selling it in the future. I don't plan on selling mine but I will still be keeping all the stock parts that come off the car.
