Newbie to forum & FDs but excited to be here!
Hi everyone! My name is Kathy and I cannot express to you how overwhelming the amount of knowledge this forum contains. From the last couple days of browsing around and reading tidbits here and there I am stoked to be part of such a great community! I plan on educating myself thoroughly on the FD3S because I will be buying one this weekend and to be honest, I have not done much research about it until this week. I have always liked the way an FD looked but because I could never find one I wanted I putted around from car to car.
My husband is a mechanic and I mainly did all the parts research for him. When he first started out he worked mainly on 240sx simply because they were easy and he knew them inside and out. We started a small side business with one of his friend of buying rollers, fixing them up and reselling them for a profit. I found the cars and parts needed, him and his friend would fix it up, and then I would post it online to get it sold. Well that lasted only for a few years until I became attached to one of the cars and so did his friend. Needless to say his friend is in the process of putting an LS1 into a red s13 and is on a deadline to have this completed just in time for Formula 1.
Here's my story about my red 1995 240sx s14.5. I bought it as a roller for only $900 intended to be a parts only car but realized the potential it had and started to build it to my liking. It came with a bad 5speed transmission with no front end or interior. Slowly over the course of a year I bought all the necessary parts for it. My husband and I put it together, did an s15 front end conversion and touched up the original paint job. Had a few tasteful modifications here and there but never thought I would sell it but when I was offered a pink Lexus I just couldn't pass. I've always wanted to paint a car pink but could never justify depreciating the value of a car just because I liked such an oddball color.
Needless to say, I let go of my first love and went to an automatic 2004 IS300. Drove it around for a few months and had many fun memories. Loved the response of the car and the pink paint job but I just couldn't forgot the feel of driving a manual. The trip-tonic option on the Lexus just did not do it justice. It could never compare to my manual 240sx. Although the 2jz is a much better engine than the ka24 I couldn't stand an automatic car any longer so I sold her. I've been car-less for a few weeks now and debated between an rx8 and a g35 coupe. Did my research and decided I wanted the rx8. Did more research and remembered about the rx7s so I dropped my sort lived infatuation with the rx8.
The same day I began looking for an rx7 was when I found my new project car. Now I haven't actually picked up the FD yet but the deal is set in stone. My husband and I will be driving 15hours to Oregon, then 15hours back to California because I could not let this deal of a lifetime slip away. She's a red 1993 FD R1 with a little over 30k miles on the chassis, has a clean title and best of all still registered in California! She's a roller also but comes with 3 good rotaries and 2 transmissions plus boxes of extra parts! I want to start driving her asap while we slowly rebuild one of the engines to handle a 600HP turbo that will also be included with the box of parts.
Sorry for such a long introduction. I will certainly include pictures this weekend after we take her back home. I suppose this could also be my build thread as well? We have such big plans for her already and I love to share my enthusiasm with fellow owners too. I appreciate any advice given and plan on spending most of my day reading up on the FD like I currently am right now. I would also like to meet any local owners in Southern California so I can pick your brain a little. I am excited to be entering a wonderful community and look forward to conversing with everyone on this forum!

hello
Welcome Kathy! I know exactly what you went through. I had a lexus is-f which was a monster on the road but I didn't like the automatic/paddle shifter transmission. I went back to driving an evo again. I'm on my fourth evo now.
I'm thinking of purchasing a 240sx but know very little about them. One thing I do know is that I will not purchase one unless I know of a good mechanic who knows how to fix them. Can you give me your husband's information? Let me know where his shop is.

Thanks for all the best wishes, I've been a little MIA but we'll be starting a build thread within the next couple months. Husband decided to go buy an FC therefore my FD is on hold at the moment. Since he's never worked on rotaries before, he wanted to practice with something cheaper. Until next time =)
