New, 83 GS
Hi guys and gals, been wanting this particular RX-7 for a few years. The owner has a ton of cars and this was being used about once every two weeks to drive to work. I knew he took good care of it and had it painted a few years ago. Finally he decided to seel it to me, since I bugged him every other month. Motor was rebuilt at 130,000 miles and it has 170,000 miles on it now.
I plan to get the interior redone slowly, already have done some of the minor stuff. Rear hatch shocks, behind the seats bins hinge, rear view mirror, and doing the rotary hatch atm.
Major find would be a good dash for it. Any help appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome! Congratulations on your '83. I used to have an '82 about 10 years ago, and I wish I still had it.
Mazdatrix sells dash covers that glue over your existing dashboard. This is definitely a whole lot cheaper ($92 for black; $122 for burgundy) than replacing the dash if you can even find one for your car. Here is the link (scroll to bottom of page):

I don't have any experience with these, but did use a dash cover on my very first car: a '74 MG Midget MKIII. When installed correctly, only a very close examination would reveal that it was a cover. I was happy with it.
Good luck!

rear shocks
As far as the rear shocks on your car go, I can offer some cheap advise. With the hatch open, grab the shock at the intersection of the body and piston and gently pull 90 degrees (down). You want to just kink the piston. If gas and fluid spew out you've gone too far and need struts anyway... no harm done, if not you've bought some time. This does work best with the hatch partially closed from the full open position.
