I remember my first time...
...like it was yesterday. My big brother had a red '94 rx7 with about 20k worth of upgrades from Pettit Racing. The first time I heard it turn on - well, I fell in love. When he accelerated on the highway, I marveled at my inability to lean forwards. "So," I thought, "this is g-force."
Now, I'm 31, I have a good job, I live in CA, and I'll be g*d damned if I'm not gonna have a 3rd gen to call my own. I'm glad a resource such as this exists as I'll be the first to admit: the idea of buying one was scary given all I remember him going through. But after spending a few days straight on these forums, I am confident it will be a wonderful and gratifying experience. Especially since it won't be my daily driver.

This is the beginning of my first, and hopefully last, attempt to buy an FD.
I arrived in Akron, OH just in time for a good solid thunderstorm. The kind of storm that makes me miss GA summers. But I guess California's 75 and sunny isn't all bad - especially with an FD touring. Which, of course, is what I hope to acquire on Tuesday. I've talked with the seller and we are scheduled to meet up at 10 AM. I've asked him to have a bill of sale ready - a standard one from the web. I figure a notarized bill of sale plus title transfer makes for a pretty solid used car sale. It's always worked for me in the past. Also, forum member Ball joint has been gracious enough to agree to meet with my on Tuesday and look everything over before I finalize anything.
I am really, really excited and hope everything works out! If it does, you can look forward to some new pics of a sexy car.

On the bright side, I'll be getting my baby on Tuesday! I am so friggin' EXCITED!

It has begun!
You guys, I'm tripping! I did it! A dream in the making for 10 years has finally come true and I am the proud, very proud, owner of a 1993 Touring Edition RX-7!!
Let's start from the beginning.
I am on the interwebs one evening looking for a new vehicle and thought I'd settled on a Volkswagen CC. It seemed like a nice car for the money and I liked it's curves. I didn't LOVE it by any means, and was frankly a little disappointed by its power-plant, but it seemed like the best I could do. Nonetheless, I decided to hop on vwvortex.com and see if anyone had done anything to give it a little more oomph. In doing so, I came across this post. Looking through the pictures brought back all the old feelings I described in the first post of this thread. I love these cars. Now direct your attention to the last post on that page. I read it and thought, "Man, whoever got his hands on that car is one lucky sunnuvabitch." THEN I noticed the date. "Wait a second," I thought, "that was only a few days ago.." I immediately signed up with an account on the forums and sent a PM to the poster asking if his uncle had sold the car yet. He messaged back that evening saying he hadn't and we began conversing.
I talked to his uncle on the phone a few days later, along with Cam, from Pettit Racing, who had looked over the photos from the album, and began planning an adoption trip to Akron. The poster and his uncle were both wonderful and patient people, and were very accommodating given my location in CA. They drove the car an hour each way to Classic Mazda in Mentor; it was the closest shop I could find with a mechanic familiar with RX-7's. The mechanic gave the car a clean bill of health and I shipped out to arrive on Sunday evening, June 19th.
I woke up this morning before the alarm went off, showered, made some coffee and was off to meet them. I parked in the culdesac, walked up the drive way, and there she was! More beautiful than in the pictures. I have never seen such an immaculate car. I could see my reflection in her siding and the interior looked straight off the show room floor. At this point, I called Joe, or Ball Joint on the forums here, and asked him if he could come meet us at the seller's house. He said sure, which was SO cool of him given that we'd originally agreed to meet at a restaurant mid-way between the two of us. Once he was on his way, the seller took me for a ride. He opened it up, I was slammed into the passenger seat, and I started giggling like a little girl. The car runs amazingly well.
About half an hour later we arrive back at the sellers house and Joe gets there shortly after. I cannot express how thankful I am to Joe for his help. It was immediately apparent that Joe knows everything about these cars and it was so reassuring to have him go over it, top to bottom, and not have anything bad to say. He noticed some things that needed fixing or replacing, but nothing that made me think I was about to buy a lemon. In fact, he kept remarking how surprised he was that I was getting this car for 18k - which, of course, made me feel awesome about my purchase. I have never felt so good about giving away so much of my cash! Joe and I then took it for another little spin. No 3000 RPM hesitation. Both turbos spool perfectly. No clunking or shaking. Nothing but a tight ride. Like a high-tech roller coster. It was everything I remembered! How often have I gone back to something I loved long ago only to find it isn't so impressive when I'm older. But not this time - I fell in love all over again. I drove it back to the seller's house as Joe and I talked maintenance and upgrades. Upon returning, the seller and I finalized the deal and then I went to meet Joe for lunch.
We talked over sandwiches, wondering aloud about how lucky I had gotten in finding this vehicle (It wasn't listed anywhere else but that post! Not autotrader, not the local classifieds, nothing!) He described the inner workings of the FD in detail, and I asked every question I could think of about how to care for my new baby and keep her as beautiful as the day she was sold.
In case I haven't conveyed it well enough, I AM UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED!!! I feel so blessed that this has all worked out like it did and can't wait to become part of the RX-7 community!
I documented the big day here. Please do click through - there's a video!
