First Time RX-7 Owner (SA22
Been wanting a Japanese legend for a while now and sold my 63 VW earlier this year that Ive had for 12yrs. Finally found what I think is a really nice example; new to rotaries, I think I lucked out with the one I found. Highly original SA22 all stock engine, paint, interior. 46k miles. Car runs and drives great, though I do seem to have a fuel leak at the accelerator pump. Done the basics so far , oil & filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, checked brake shoes and pad levels. Even has working A/C; I believe it was the second owner who upgraded to R134
Taking it into DNA garage in Santa Ana tomorrow and hoping he can help me get it past smog. Im just slightly above the CO limit, everything else passes. Tired a few times but can't seem to get it past, hoping he can work some magic.
Future plans are to keep it pretty stock and keep it maintained and running as nice as it does now. Not sure on what any smart upgrades would be, other then I would like to upgrade the points ignition to the later FB electronic ignition?
A bit intimidated by the Nikki carb though as it seems much more complicated then the VW world im used to working in.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new RX-7!! You have a beautiful Sonic Bronze GS! The car looks to be in amazing condition overall! The Nikki carb is pretty basic and easy to figure out. It's surprising to me that a 40+ year old car is still required to pass an emissions test, even in California.

Congrats, you did find a very nice example. It was owned for awhile by another forum member here. (RCCAZ 1) You can send him a private message if you need any history or info on the car.

Good morning. Yep, that’s my old Bronzie. Carb was recently rebuilt here in AZ. AC was recharged with R12 back in 2016, just before heading to California to participate in the Touge California event. If Louie at DNA can’t figure it out, also try Fris at Lucky7. Bring her out to the Sevenstock event at Irwindale Raceway on November 16th. I’ll be there and would love to share additional information about your new ride.

Look forward to meeting you out at Sevenstock. Thanks again for the info and Lucky 7 tip.
