MI 8-87 RX7 13b new guy

So I own a custom auto shop (Auto Appearance) it has been in business for over 15 years now, and we have always been into the V8 muscle cars, resto mods, and the mini trucks with small and big block swaps.
Recently (2 days ago) I purchaced a 1988 (8.1987 build date) Rx7 with a automatic trans and the 13b engine.
The engine is shot, with antifreeze in the oil I'm guessing head gasket, or head.

Non the less I was on the internet and searching around for a reman engine for this, but then I came across a crazy site called the RX7club and I see that people are stuffing v8 ls1 engiones into these as well.
I have never seen one done like that, so I looked and found what I think is the best kit for me to do this swap.
I picked Granny's speed shop for the engine mounts, cradle, driveshaft kit, for just under 600.00 US.

So I ordered it up.

What I have is a 1985 Chevy 350 4 bolt main mild cam, turantula intake, and a 750 edlbrock carb, electric fuel pump and so on......

I got the car for 400.00, it's in great shape no rust at all, even underneath looks like new, odometer says 65,000 miles, it had 4 tv's and a killer sound system but for 400.00 I didn't get that stuff.

I did get the rest with the 16" custom rims, this is a SE model car by the way.

So I will shortly be taking the 13b engine and trans out to get it ready for prep and paint before the new engine is installed.

Thisa is the first time for a swap into a rx7 so I'm sure I'll be in here a few times asking questions.

Okay I will also take pictures and document the entire build.

I'm outta here for now but will return :

MI Day one

Yesterday we did this to the RX7:
Dropped the driveshaft
unbolted the tranny crossmember - (automatic trans)
Unhooked the A/C unit ompletly
got the coils outta the way
unbolted the drivers side single engine mount bolt
Unbolted the 3 passenger side bolts, (got some nasty brown fluid dripping from there)

Once you get that car done, I think you'll really enjoy it. I just got an '86 with a Chevy 350 and it feels nice and torquey.

Sounds like a good project. I wish I had the funds to just jump into a V8 RX7 project like that haha. Good luck man.

So I got the engine and transmission out last night. What a pain in the neck that was to get out. I've never had any vehicle give me that much grief before, I hope the rest of the build isn't this demanding or it will be up for sale soon.

So now I'm waiting on Granny's speed shop for the parts, dunno when I'll be getting them, it says expect delivery in 2-4 weeks

I got the engine cradle, transmission crossmember and driveshaft on order.

I just wanna get it in there, and test fit it all, before I bother with rubber bushings, and rear end enforcment, 5 lug swap etc.....

So if anyone needs any parts from a 13b N/T or a auto trans - lemme know!

Cuz this RX7 is getting a 350

how clean/new are the fuel injectors/ fuel pump? I'm looking to replace all of my injectors due to how dirty/old mine are. Currently, the new ones a *mite* too expensive for my college student tastes, so I'm rather interested in second-hand that's like first. Also, if you're willing to sell the parts off of the engine individually, let me know.

RX7 head gasket

Well as I stated I know nothing about a rotary engine, I even tried to post things for sale but I didnt include a price for anything cuz I dont think it's worth much at all.

I will be tearing the engine apart to see how it works, now that it's out I see why you guys like them so much they are small, I can lift the engine up on the bench myself.
Although it's not easy to do , but I can do that with the 350 thats taking place of the busted rotary that I pulled from this lifeless RX.

As far as stepping away from the car - no, I'm stepping up and putting in a 425+ HP 350 with a 383 stroker kit, no NOS, I'll leave that for the ricers!!!!!!!

I'll offer parts from this auto trans and engine for this week, after that I'll just scrap it all, nobody I've talked to has any interest in the rotary so far, they all say they are 70,000 mile clunker engines, and need rebuilt after every use.

I have looked at them on youtube and seen the power they can make running turbos, but I'm not trying to learn all about a engine for 1 car, so I'll stick a engine in there that will probably be WAAAAY to much for this little toy to handle.

I bet I bend the car in 1/2 the first time I try to do a hard launch!!!!

MI 13b N/a - for parts, also auto trans - sensors etc..

I have removed the engine, and the trans from a 1988 FC body RX7.

It is being replaced with a 355ci Chevy engine so I will be parting the engine and trans online. Once I tear it down and get it all gathered up I will scrap it along with the trans, as I have no use for any of it!!!!

The rotors are spoken for and possibly the injectors, and fuel pump.

Otherwise let me know what you wan t from it!

I'm on daily so email away!!!!
