1988 Mazda RX7 NA / Monster Miata

first i'll start off by saying hi to everyone on the board.. my name is mike and im a long time fan of mazda's in general

i first bought an all original 1988 rx7 NA when i was 20 years old... it only had 61 xxx original kms on it and it ran/looked brand new... loved the car but had to trade it away because i couldn't afford the gas/ insurance at the time... since then i have now come across a Monster Miata.... for the few on this board who havn't heard of them... mine is a 1990 Miata with a 5.0L V8 mustang 302 in it... the T5 mustang tranny... and well the very weak 1.6" miata rear... i just recently blew the rear end to pieces and am going to start a mazda Rx7 second gen rear end swap,..

As an owner of both an rx-7 and a miata (91, stock) I say welcome.

Just make sure it's a rear end from the turbo model. I am sure you are aware of that- just making sure

what is the difference between the rear end of a turbo and NA? how do you tell them apart?? theres very few numbers on the rear end i have... the only numbers i could see on it are M5505 ( i think)

Okay, I should correct myself. You need a limited slip differential from a second gen, and not only the turbo models came with them.

Below was copied from the FAQ section for 2nd gens:

Only the following USA model 2nd gen RX-7s had a LSD from the factory:
86-88 GXL
87-91 T2
88 GTU
89-90 GTUs (however not the 89-90 GTU)
It is also rumored that a few rare 91 coupes with both the A (upgraded the interior trim, added a power sunroof, tilt steering wheel, cruise control, and 4 piston front disc brakes and vented single piston rear brakes) and the B package (leather seating, a CD player, and rear cargo cover) came with a LSD, but you should note that Mazda denies that any FC other than the T2 came with a LSD in 91). You can also tell by looking at the differential as there will be a LSD tag on S4 cars with a LSD.

nice,... then i might have a LSD... still not sure... because i don't know what car it came from. it has no tag to identify it... the only umbers i could get off it were M055 2....and M708... does this tell anything? thanks for your input
