Where the hell can I buy this sub...?

What I particularly like about it is that it's built for audio fidelity in mind, whereas 99.999997% of subs on the market are built for spl. I could hardly care less about spl. Does anybody know of any other companies that build subs of this nature?
I have a feeling getting my hands on one of those subs would be a special order thing from one of focal's dealers and would rape me in the ***.

Your looking at 10,000+ for that sub and I belive its only an 8. If your looking for great sound quality and can sacrifice spl check out focals UTOPIA subs, they are cheaper and can be had off of ebayf or around $500. Very nice sounding subs they retail at about 1100.

Speakers are a "**** in **** out" type product. I will say that a $2 mass produced speaker from Radio Shack sounds a bit different then a $200 Alpine, Harmon Kardon or Bose.
But, what makes the only noticeable difference is distortion that you are sending to the speaker. Who here believes they can run a Pyle deck to a Pyle amp to a $1000 sub and have great sound quality??
Quality deck, high voltage output; digital if posible, low distortion to a quality cross-over seperate or built into a quality low distorion amp --> to a $200 12". That will win sound quality competions, not DB Drag Races.
Don't forget; shielded wires run seperated from power cable as much as possible and the best grounding system you are capable of putting into your car.

$10k? I doubt it. Did you mean $1k? that's liveable. Yeah I could see it being $3k but as shitty as car audio is, that would just be retarded.
And it's really not that I'm willing to "sacrifice" spl, so much is it that I don't care about it. I don't like much bass, I don't want the system to punch too hard, and the last thing I want is the bass to drown out the music.

As far as install, I'll take it somewhere that I trust to do good work. That's all I can do really.

That's why you see a lot of sound competition guys (who have cars that weren't engineered w/ sound in mind) make custom pods in their door panels and dash etc. And that's also why one of *the* greatest sounding cars EVER are some Volvos, in which Dynaudio had a hand in designing the interior of the car, and hence placement of the 12 or so speakers they managed to fit into that beast. mmm the dynaudio volvos are amazing, they are the best sounding stock systems in any car. Anyways, the utopia be is about 10k for a pair, they are ultra exclusive and are for people who have so much money they arent sure what to do with it, unfortently that isnt any of us here LIke i said earlier look into the focal utopia line you wont be dissapointed. Check out elitecaraudio.com they will point you in the right direction.

Wow, talk about a simply stupid waste of money....haha what a bunch of suckers.
Get a JL Audio driver with a properly sized and constructed sealed box. That will provide as much audio quality as can be appreciated in an FD (given proper amplification and setup).

Check out elitecaraudio.com they will point you in the right direction.anyway, i know one of the dealer's i was talking to was telling me it would cost around $2k for a set up focal utopia components. what i'll probably do for components is buy a set of focal k2p's. those are really bright speakers but i listen to a lot of trance and it complements that type of music well.
as far as that sub goes, i'll ask and see what it would cost, if they say $10k, i'll **** myself. never know though, jl makes an amp that's pretty much special order only that costs $9k.

I've just never heard jl subs sound good unless you consider something pushing a lot of spl to sound good. i also would prefer something in the 8" range (to save some space) that's of high sound quality. i'm picky about bass...the only time a lot of it is good is when i'm listening to rap, which is a rarity.
yeah it could just be the fact that every jl setup i've heard was just meant to hit hard but......

w6 and the w7 are the best drivers available today. the w7 has a little more output and i believe the w6 sounds a bit better. Are they over priced? Depends, but you really get what you pay for, great craftmanship, quality and customer service. I will be running either the diamond d9 12d4 or the 15" focal utopia sub. Seems like they dropped the focal utopia line, you still can find it on ebay though.

You want a great cheap SQ sub? Check out what Image Dynamics has for sale on eBay. Look for the ID overstock subs. Great speakers, awesome sound, work well on little power and small boxes.
Yes Yes cardomain does carry them now, but its not a bad thing, still great speakers.
