What's involved with totally changing the paint of a FD?

I have a Montego Blue third gen with not too bad paint (everyone says it looks new)

But I would love to change it to Innocent Blue Mica....I would like to have a complete job that is door sills and engine bay.....

How much is invovled? Does the Engine need to be pulled? If I get paint chips later...will I see my old base color underneath??

my rex will be outa the paint shop on friday and it is a pretty expensive job. Mine was hit in the front, so i decided to have the color changed all together. The engine DOES need to be pulled along with all the other stuff on the firewall and surrounding areas if you want it to look right. it'd be easier to unbolt all that stuff than to tape all around everything, plus there'd probably be bare spots and what not. the door jams can be painted too it just takes a little time to tape it up so no paint goes inside. Oh, also on the inside of gas door and the hatch lip (you know where the latch and all is) will need to be painted for a true factory look. If it's prepped right and painted right, it won't chip, but if it did, you'd see primer underneath, not factory paint. All in all, it is costing me $1600 for the works with the bodywork (i supplied the front clip). But i am getting a very good deal b/c i did mechanical work for a friend of mine with a bodyshop, so if you don't have any hookups, figure $1g more probably

it's a factory color for an infiniti. it was forest green on the sample color, but when i saw it on friday, it looks more of a forest green with a little pearl white in it. it looks damn good so far. but they told me they gotta do a few more adjustments to the light assembly and what not. i'm gonna post pics when i get it back.

Talking wooooooooooooo

Thanks for the links......

I knew I saw that somewhere!

Also that one guy answered some of my questions about changing the interior color.....

I have a 94 so just the seats and carpet.....

The carpet shouldn't be too hard to dye.....and the floor maps....well I could use a new set ne ways.....

but the problem is with the tan plastic parts on the seats......I don't want those to peel......

hmmmmm....any suggestions? Is it cheaper just to buy seats then to have them re-leathered (is that a word?) in black???????

it'll probably be cheaper to check out the "for sale" threads and see if someone is selling their seats.. redoing the seats in leather can run $500 per seat depending on where you get it done.. for that price you could get some sparco torinos.. hehe

and to get a "complete" paintjob done like the one shown above where everything is stripped down and redone correctly, you're looking at AT LEAST $3000... at least thats the running price around here in So. Cali..

just my .02 cents..
