haha functional??? if you tip any spoiler foward enuf, it will put down downforce. you make it sound like spoilers even work at the speeds we go at (perhaps for the very few with go over 150mph but even then, i doubt they will be cornering). in anycase, this is all for the rice/looks man, how else can you explain a 84 inch wide spoiler (ultra mega wing owns you! )???

BTW: The raise center does not do jack! sure it looks cool and they say it helps with turbulence but if it did really work that well, you would see indy car, drag cars, pan/la man cars as well as a host of other cars with this design instead of drift cars, ricers and others with it on. in my opinoin, the duckbill lip/whale tail type of spoiler work the most efficiently from all the test i have seen/read about.

if your talkign about the duckbill type which is actually on the rear bumper of the car, i dont think ill ever make those, I think they dont look too well (actually i personnaly hate them on FD's but thats just me, different strokes for different folks). on a cuda or a viper its ok cuz it seems to follow the car pretty well.

Skunk, I am sure you are right, first on the issue of speed, A Mod autocross cars use huge indy car style wings, and never exceed ~70mph, show me a quicker vehical at those speeds(they also kick *** on Pike Peak), they run circles around race carts.
Next I am sure you are right about the wing design, that is why the NEW C5R Corvette wings are this style, and why they are winning races, oh, they do not always win, the ProDrive Ferraris sometimes beat them, but of course they are also running that style of wing. So, I suppose all the current factory Chevrolet, and Ferrari GT car efforts are just guessing on wings, no wind tunnel testing, They probably are winning the ALMS races on a fluke
Let's see, you also said that Indy cars, and drag cars would be running them if they worked, do you realise how IDIOTIC that is, the aerodynamics of those cars share nothing with GT cars, which by the way, you do mention, ALL of the fastest LeMan GT cars with a rear glass shape , and tail like that of 2nd, and 3rd gen RX7s are running these wings. In addition, almost all the top teams in JGTC have moved to these wings. I could go on but I'm thinking you got the point, and if you did not, then I am wasting my breath anyway.
It is just that ignorant statements like yours, with no basis in fact, do not belong on a technical forum, they belong in the lounge. Looks is opinion, efficasy is fact............

The spoiler you are talking about is a low drag/relatively low downforce set-up, alot of GT cars(vipers particularly) use a combination of the duckbill, and a conventional wing.

Skunks, I guess I was a little harsh, but you are wrong on all counts when it comes to function, SORRY for being so harsh, I tried to edit my post, but I had waited too long.
I guess I just get tired of people thinking the project I am building is some half assed all show, no go car. I am using alot of Aero theory borrowed from some of the top GT race teams, yes, it would look pretty out of place on the street, but this is a track car. Aero functions at all speeds, just less at lower ones, thus the necessity for larger wings, canards, and ground effects. Anyway sorry about last nights rant Peace, Carl

My god Carl, you are without a doubt the hugest post ***** I've ever seen.

It seems to me the reason why the wing varies in shape across it's surface is due to the way air flows off the top of the car onto it.

And BTW Carl, you seem to have a strong liking towards Corvettes I remember reading that in the speedvision GT series, the Corvette was allowed to have the highest power/weight ratio of any other car, perhaps there's some simular silly rule here and that's why they're winning. Racing is such a joke, it's all money and politics, and sadly F1 is the biggest example of this.

Nice looking wing Skunks!!
