VIS Polyfiber 99 Jspec Replica

VIS Polyfiber 99 Jspec Replica
I got an email from VIS and they said that if 15 people are intrested, they would make a poly fiber replica of the 99 spec front bumper.... so who's interested. I'm still waiting on a response to how much it would cost and the details of what the bumper would include (i.e. lights or what not) so I'll post that when I find it. Hopefully it'll happen and I won't have to spend $1400 for a front bumper that I have to shave a shoe-box out of.

I'll ask them about it w/o the license plate holder, that's what I'd prefer. I don't know who it was at VIS that emailed me back. I just asked customer service.... We'll see how it goes.

Just a quick observation. I'm glad if VIS tries to get this done, but the likelyhood that 15 people will pay up front is very unlikely. At least two vendors have tried this before. Heck, they couldn't even get 10 people for the Pettit 99 group buy for $450. Geez.
Alot of people want this, but you can never get enough people at te same time, who want the same thing. If they were smart, they'd just build 15 without plates, and post some pictures. They'd be sold in about 3-6 months.

This time it's different....dont' ask me why.
Just kidding.
But in all seriousness I have a relatively large amount of confidence in VIS who's products always seem to fit well and be of high quality. And maybe it's my own ignorance or penchant for skepticism of Pettit and other company's fiberglass replicas (especially when they admit that "work has to be done to make them fit properly") but I'd personally be willing to prepay for one of their polyfiber front bumpers. If nothing else it's worth a try. It has to work one of these times. And as for pricing, VIS usually seems to charge in the neighborhood of $250 to $300 for their front bumpers so this would be considerably cheaper even compared to Petit's.
Cross your fingers and hope that this baby takes off.

Same here. I don't want one w/o it.
Also, that Pettit bumper was a rip off. The whole FD community is WAY over priced bodykit wise. I guess thats what happens when the car is rare and only a few company's make kits.
Normally a VIS fiberglass bumper is around 200-300 bucks. Polyfiber ones from them are a little more, but I would way rather have a polyfiber kit from them then a all fiberglass one from Pettit. I have seen them in person, and seen what kind of abuse they can take. At the VIS main warehouse I jumped on the demo one they had and it didn't matter one bit.
Plus the fitment of VIS products rivals all the big name "JDM" products out there. For the most part, quality is no different with those products. You pay for the name and the "JDM" hype.
I am sure there will be enough people.
Don't forget to PM a mod about the group buy BEFORE it gets going.

I just looked on the website but they took down all the pictures they used to have showing the strength.
They had someone flexing the bumper like hell, twisting it like a pretzel. They also had the bumper installed on a car and had the car backing up into a pole without it breaking.
Polyfiber is pretty strong. Obviously it will crack before OEM polyurethane cracks but it is A LOT more rigid than the plastic OEM aswell. As you can tell, OEM polyurethane is really expensive to produce. Thats why the only aftermarket company that I know of that still produces such kits is Wings West, but they only have the veilside knockoff.

Why wouldn't you just buy the real version? You can get the same piece you are buying here (skin) for the same price range if you look around. And then you don't have to worry about the quality or fit you are worried about.

I might not be looking in the right spot, but I can't find a store that sells just the skin for under $550 plus shipping(+ $100).
We don't know the price with a group buy, but I imagine it will be in the low $400's atleast for the polyfiber. Plus I can pick the bumper up in person since I live by the warehouse
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Just so that it's clear, the '$1400' includes the bumper skin, the reenforcement bar, the combo turn signal/corner lights, and the lower lip spoiler.
The best prices I've found are $360ish for the lights and $165ish for the lip, and would be added to the overall price. The rebar was a few hundred dollars IIRC, but not absolutely neccesary if can/want to hack up the original one. Make sure people understand this, and don't get the impression that they are getting '$1400' in parts for just $400.
Here is a good breakdown of the prices. They also offer the 'kit' w/o the rebar if you choose to modify your own - for $997:

You might also want to talk to Chuck/Rotary Extreme (his ad is currently running as one of the banners above). He was trying to get something going for the exact same thing, but there was not enough interest. Maybe he can try it again, since he's likely done most of the research, etc.

chrischung125,
i live relatively close to VIS and could help out w/ distributing them. i could also go down there and look at the product. i used to have a wholesale account w/ them but i didnt like selling fiberglass, however they now make some very nice body components. the group buy might be set at a good price however they may charge a bit more on shipping like the other shops do around here. ill also talk to some other guys i know that are doing polyuerethane kits and see what they can do. as far as the 99 turn lights we now have some distributers with copies going for $150. ive been waiting to get a 99 spec so this would be a good opportunity for myself and those others that just cant spend $1300+
email me if interested in working something out or call my bus. line

I still haven't gotten an email from them yet, but I'll post what they say. From what I understand of their parts, none of them require a new rebar and some of their kits come with their turn signal lights. I actually asked most of the same questions that you all are asking so we'll see when the email drops into my box.
hyper7: If the answers we get from VIS look good that would be a huge help in making sure everything goes off smoothly. And if you could get the whole deal with the lights to work out if they don't come with them, that would be awsome. Bu who knows... we'll see.
P.S. I'll ask about making ones with and without the license plate holder.
