the door panel comes apart in pieces. the part on the door that is soft fabric comes out. there's some screws on the back; quite a few. that may get you closer. i've never upholstered anything, though.

My old s4 ended up doing the whole interior, the material is the same stuff used on speaker boxes.

Tight looking door panel!!! As for as in how to cover it yourself I've always learned by doing, take it apart slow and easy and it will come to you.

I used staples and (yes) duct tape to hold it ion place on the back while the glue set. Don't laugh, it worked quite well. I turned it into a one piecer though. Also the backing was nearly destroyed from the northern climate's nasty weather. I removed most of the old fiber backing and replaced it with some fiber board I had laying around. Worked surprisingly well, and the door no longer closes with a rattle, but with a thunk, as though theres actually something to it.

One problem I ran into: When desinging the new backing, it was considerbly thicker. Turns out it ended up so thick after install that the window crank barely touches the spines enough to roll the window. I'm hoping to do a power window conversion and fill the crank holes with tweeters. that should conceal everything back up.

Was that way when I bought the car. the paint has nearly all worn/scratched away on most of the handle. Kinda frustrating, but paintint it won't get it back to its original color without future scratches happening and using sand paper will just scratch it up.

I'll post pics of mine tonight. I am doing them all in my basement with high quality material, fabric adhesive, hot glue, and a razor blade. They look pro quality.

hey! i just did mine in carbon print vinyl on my 86se. i decided to do the one peice version too cuz it looks cooler. ive got it backed in 1/4" foam and it looks pretty plush right now. i like it. youll need some spray adhesive and a decent stapler.
if you want i can do your doors with the carbon print (looks really good, ill have pics in a couple days) for like 60$. its not that sticker crap, its actually embossed vinyl so it looks like real carbon fiber. looks very tuner.

its probably what ur thinking about. most of the places i called to source this stuff thought it was the gay sticker that they use on all that ebay "type ARRRRR" stuff. this is way different.

That's the same vinyl I did the inner parts of my door panels and my center console in. The outer edges of the door panels are a bitch though. That huge bend where the vents are is near impossible to stretch fabric over.
