It really depends on your Amp, and the type of sound you are looking for.
For me, personally, I lean towards SQ (sound quality) and Eclipse, MB Quart, Diamond Audio, JBL, Alpine. Then there is SPL (sound pressure level) and there are a ton of new companies in this neiche like JL Audio, Audiobahn, XXX(Brahma?), Memphis Audio, etc...

You get the idea. My feeling is that our cars are coupes. Therfore, there is no need for crazy loud SPL. Thats why I choose a nice balanced SQ sub. A coupe can make a bad sub sound good, and a good sub sound awsome!

what kind of car do you have? 15" in an FD3S is pretty ghetto, i think.

i would go with 8" but if thats to small for you 10" is good, 12" MAX.

cerwin vega makes my favorite subwoofer. that vega flex stuff is crazy, just what i like. MTX makes a solid subwoofer and is made in the USA. (so they say)

Im wondering the same thing basically.... how good is rockford subs and amps? what about pheonix amps (sorry yanyan to hijack your thread)

and whaT ABOUT AUDIOBAHN TOO (bass pressure or whatever wise)? DO they make quality subs? whats my best options?

i have an acura integra and wanna put the kicker solox subs in my trunk (10000 watts... 5000 rms ... like OMG) too bad theyre like 1500 for a pair...

but back to the amp thing.... what would be a suitable amp (watt wise and quality) for a Peak Power Handling: 2000Watts
RMS Power Range: 1000Watts (the kind yanyan wants)

thanx much... sorry for being suck a nub

Peak handling really means nothing, your most likely never going to have your amp put out that much. RMS is more important, in my friends eclipse he has 600 rms powering 2 12" and it sounds really good, hits really hard too. It mostly depends on whether you just want some base or you want to be heard from a mile away.

right, i get the whole rms thing.... but how does the sub to amp wattage ratio go? like do you need soo many amps watts per watts of the subwoofer to make a difference? (so confused) like for a speaker like i listed up there^ (2000 watt max 1000 rms) how big would my amp have to be for something like that?

and how many farads with a compacitor per watts would I need?

OH OH and which is better... more ohms or less?

thanx so much for clearing this up for me

Lower Ohms = More power, but more heat becasue your amp is working harder.
4 Ohms is usually a good compromise. Most high quality amps are 2 Ohm stable, some even 1 Ohm stable. However, that is simply overkill.

its my understanding that you want the same RMS being put out by your amp that your sub is able to handle because that will give you the best sound quality.

You may or maynot need a cap! 1/2 farad should be good enough! I put in a 1 farad just to be sure.

i have a 12 inch image dynamics idq v2 dual 2 ohm sub in my fd. SQ is excellent which was what i wanted. if a IDQ isnt enough bass for you, they have the ID max subwoofers as well. i highly recommend image dynamics.
