Question stripping the wax

I want to take the old layers of wax off my car but it seems that all the car wash soaps you find won't remove the wax. Is there any car wash soaps that will remove the old wax? Other than dawn, I know it damages the clear coat! I want to re-glaze, re-polish, and re-wax my car starting from scratch. thanks for the help.... and if you have any recommended products, list them!

Heres a few things you should know.
- Car wash detergents are not supposed to remove wax. Which is pretty obvious since no one would want to rewax every time they wash their cars.
- Polishing and glazing alone will cut any surface on the paint away (including wax and some microns of paint)
- Dawn does not damage paint, clearcoat, moldings, glasses, etc in any way. It will remoe grease and wax if you use a certain amount. I (and many other professional detailers) wouldn't be using dawn if it damaged the surface of my car.
- www.autopia.org , click "Learn" and read up before doing anything.

+1 for the above info, I know that normal dish soap will strip all the was off the car. I cant remember how much you put in the bucket, but I know once you do it, you need to re-wax pretty quick, since you have exposed the paint so much. Good Luck!

I would only trust Dawn, others i can not guarantee because the different chemicals they contain might harm the paint/clearcoat and even exterior moldings.

Don't go crazy with this idea, but you can get some liquid washing machine soap (I used gain) and use it for your suds.> It was just an experiment. And I was also playing around with NuFinish and some other wax at the time. Now this maroon Expedition just continues to shine on and on despite my ignoral to it.
