Question Speaker driver short or speaker wire?

hello
I have a front door speaker that doesnt work
it is aftermarket pioneer 3way in a 96 honda prelude, daily driver/spare

Ok, so here is the deal
it doesnt work so I disconnected it a few years ago
what would happen is if I plugged it in my kenwood receiver would reset and safety shutdown
recently, someone broke into the car and stole that radio...

So i had an old clarion lying around. I plugged it in and forgot which speaker was bad.
the radio was smoking and and is now dead. *fizzle* *pop* *fizzle*

I have removed the speaker from the door and replaced it. I inspected it and it looks perfectly fine, no burn marks
door wires seem ok, but I did not check behind dash.

So what I need to know is, is the speaker driver bad or could there be a short in the speaker wire?
Is it possible for a short in the speaker wire to cause the radio to fizzle like that? I don't think so?

I have a new radio incoming.
my brother has all my tools but I can go to radio shack and get a multimeter if I need to
but if other knowledgeable people think it is also the speaker I wouldnt need to do that
just buying some cheap wire might be more cost effective as well

Sounds like you have a short in the wire some where. I would recommend you that you rewire it completely. Even if you find the spot where the wire is shorted at the could be a possibility that is shorted some where else.
