Sony Makes Great electronics, but I personaly HATE their head units. I know of three that stoped working wright after 2-3 years of use. The Exploid is their new line stuff, so I cant realy speak for those.
The one I just took out of my car, didn't even play all CDs. and it wouldn't take Recorded CDs.
My G/F gave me her Pioneer, and I Love it. It Plays all of my CDs, and the EQ works Great.
If posible get an Alpine, or Pioneer.
Trust me.

I love my pioneer. I have one they don't sell anymore, but i still love it to death. It's the 840R i believe. I also have a pioneer EQ in the din below it, and it's perfect. Next week, i'm putting in new speakers and a big amp, so it should be even better But man, even with stock speakers and the head-unit's amplifier....it sounds awesome.

I like my SOny Explod Mobile ES 8050...works well for me, but it is the top-of-the-line unless you want to go up to the $900 reference unit...if youre gonna install yourseelf go to www.tms-electronics.com to buy, theyre cheapest that I know of.

I have a sony Xplod in my car. It pretty good so far and matches the diplay perfectly. It plays all kinds of CD's including CD-R. Out of all the decks, including the pioneer and alpine, the sales rep recommended it. It's a good price and has the best warranty, which is 2 years. Even pioneer can only offer a 1 year warranty. Shows which manufacturer is more confident. It's priced better than pioneer and alpine, but it's your call. Just don't go with Panasonic if you want good sound quality.

eric89gtu was talkin about sony's reference unit, its actually a 1200msrp unit, the cdx-c90, and i own it, and i love it, sony makes good stuff, i personally don't like the looks for the Xplod stuff, but if you like the looks, its a good unit

I sell these things and other brands for a living and I'll give you the truth, I've dealt with hundreds off these things. The sony xplod is a joke. the volume control always goes bad after a while and the L.E.D's in the screen burn out as well. Even though they are rated 50x4, they have the least (19x4) rms rating. I've anyways owned Kenwood Exelon and i love them. The only real brand I hate more is JVC

I also think that kenwood excelon is very good i bought one last summer and it works excellent and looks very good. The model i have is kdc-x815, it was new last year. this year the kdc-x817 took its place, check it out here http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...3KDCX817&o=&a=

Don't know about the newer Xplod models, I've got a XR-C7200 cassette head unit and it rocks. It's a couple of years old, but it makes 19 watts RMS, 40 watts peak. Plenty loud for the limited interior space my the RX. I do own an Xplod CD-X747X, one of the CD changers that has ESP. It has never skipped in my RX.

my new xplod skips quite bit. but i have an R1 too, so the ride is super stiff.
i chose it over an equally priced alpine and clarion and kenwood, because and only because it had an acutal **** to turn down the volume instead of the UP and DOWN buttons' *AND* it matches my FD Dash Display PERFECTLY!
i'm sure the clarion would be better quality and my girlfriend bought the alpine that was equally priced and it does seem to have less ~hiss~ noises in between tracks, but then again i have MBQuart component speakers and they pick up alot more as well.... so who knows?

pft. sony HUS rock i love them. i bought a CDX m650 for my mr2 i had, but i sold the car. the HU has all the bells and whistles remote, CD/MD changer hook up. its still new in the box, i never got around to installing it. ill sell it to you cheap and ship it. PM me about it if you are interested. its the phatty one where the EQ shines through the black face and the controlls fold out. would look great in a rex.
and the car i rode in that had one, it sounded REAL clear and it never skipped a beat, WITH aftermarket suspension as well.
