Sitting height with racing seats

I'm in the market for an FD, but being quite tall (6'6"), and with only euro spec RX7s, which all have sunroofs, available around here, I have a problem fitting in the stock seats. I'm simply too tall, my head touches the roof.

I see two possible solutions besides giving up my RX-7 dream;

1) Get some racing seats (Recaro, Sparco, etc), mount them as close to the floor as possible, and hope that enough room will be left for my head.

2) Get rid of the sunroof, weld a piece of sheetmetal in it's place, and modify the roof lining to make more headroom.

No. 2 is obviously more work than I'd like to do on a newly purchased car just to be able to enjoy it, and racing seats are nice anyhow, so no. 1 seems like the way to go.

Can anyone give me a hint about the possible change in "butt-level" with a racing seat as compared to the stock seats? I need about an inch to be comfortable, about 2 inches to be able to wear a helmet inside the car.

TIA,
-M

Get an FC plenty of leg/head room in there lol jk, go with the racing seat, they'll most likely provide you with the head room you need

you're not going to get more than about two inches even if you get a seat with side mounts and put it right on the floor. If you get a seat with bottom mounts, you won't get more than about .5 - 1". If you get a seat with side mounts it won't slide forward/backward (which might not be a big deal.
