Seibon Hood Fitment

Anybody got a Seibon Hood and had adventures with fitment? I just got my KS and it appears to be off. The left side hinge mount bolts are 1 3/4 " from the edge, while the right side is about 2" from the edge. Oddly enough, that appears to be a problem and matches some of the alignment problems. Its bad enough now that the left side hinge interlock tab won't go into it's slot.

Also, are they supposed to have a hood prop slot? Mine might have one, but it's not wide enough to accept the prop.

I would appreciate any opinions, cause I'm thinking I should have gone VIS, or even better, Stock!

How much money do I have to give you to make it a fair trade?

Has you car been in an accident? Why is the fitment so bad?

i had a problem with the same hood. was too lazy to send it back for another one. so i hacked up my hinges by bending them and using a dremel to widen the holes. overall i got it to fit okay, but i guess thats what i get cuz its the only fake part on my car.

My car is straight. The stock hood has hinge bolts 1 3/4" from each side. This thing is definitely off, but it sounds like that might be the norm.

I wouldn't mind dremeling the hood prop part, but I can't picture the other problem. All Ive ever had was a stock hood. You have picks of the fitment? What part of the bay are you from?

Did yours have the the hood prop slot, and did you have to widen it?

I need to take some better measurements, but I think the left/right hinge bolt holes are too close and are pulling the hinges together, causing the hinge interlock to miss it's hole. That's probably the underlying problem with the rest of the alignment issues. Don't really want to hack up my hinges, cause I might have to put the socker back on when this flys off in a light breeze.

i think all the KS hoods are short. i had an original and it was short so i assume all the replicas will be short as well. i wonder if the KS bumber sits higher or something.

After talking to Seibon (nice guys, not very helpful), the consensus was that since these things are hand made, you can't expect them to built with any consistency. One guy said I would probably have to remove my fenders, and though he didn't actually say it, I'm assuming I sould be able to put them back on (I don't really want to drive around without fenders). The other guy (has an FD) didn't think I'd have to remove the fenders, it should only need some minor adjustment (their WebSite states "Minor adjustments may be necessary as part of the normal installation process"). Well, since it wasn't close to fitting, I pulled the hood latch and the fenders (so I could get to the base of the hood hinges). The hinge bases do have larger holes with room for movement, and you can tighten them with the hood closed (very handy), but the right side hinge was already set as far to the center of the car as possible. This gets back to the original problem of the right side hood mount being off by 1/4", it's hard to make up for 1/4" worth of error. As it sits now, I've got a 1/8" gap on the right fender, a 1/4" gap on the left fender (fender pushed as tight as possible), 1/4" gap on the right bumper, and a 3/8" gap on the left bumper (these things are short). The lines along the front don't fit the elevation of the front bumper well either. If the center of the hood is pushed flush with the surface of the bumper, the outsides edges are about 1/4" below the surface of the bumper.

I'll get a box of Kleenex and call them again, but I'm not expecting anything good. Keep it in mind if you're considering a hood, it's a bit of a crap shoot.

I'll second that.

After reviewing lots of threads here last year, it seemed there were both good and bad experiences with Seibon and Vis hood fitment.

I took my chances and bought a Vis KS style hood.

Looks nice, well made, doesn't fit quite right.

The gap on one side is significantly wider than the other, and the driver side head light is rubbing on the side.

As I bought it for cooling, I'm not gonna worry about it too much. It's an autox car. If I want to look good for local shows, I'll just put the stock hood back on.

Would have preferred it fit better however.
