S2000 Push Button install...yes,I know its been done before...
I never got to do this on my old R1 so I decided to do it now. This has been done to death on this forum and every other forum in existence. Just sharing my go around and maybe the pics will help someone else out....Some thoughts:
1. Mod is good for at least 5 hp...comparable to mazdaspeed sticker
2. I like rice. Many of you think this is rice. I don't care, I still like it.
3. I did it in about 2 hours....more out of boredom than anything else.
4. Completely reversible and I retain key function if I get bored of the button.
Ok, the pics and process.
Pretty much THE diagram to go by. NOTE: I did not cut the Black with blue stripe wire. I tapped mine to retain key function
Here is the official OEM switch...found it...you guessed it..in my bag of rice.
I used a 40 amp Tyco relay wired:
85 to yellow wire on S2K button
86 to ground, tapped cruise control Black wire
87 tapped Black with Green stripe wire off ignition
30 tapped (I did NOT CUT) Black with Blue stripe wire off ignition
I used posi-connects and posi-taps for the wiring. Made it quick and easy (easily reversible). Some like these, some don't. They have never failed me but use whatever you feel most comfortable with connecting wires.
Here is the harness to the button. Note that I cut off the top plastic piece of the S2K button to expose the prongs. Easier to get the harness in. Harness was Part#03165 from Cables To Go. Its a Y-adapter for the old 3.5” floppy drive. S2K button has 5 prongs, you use three...1,2,3 from left looking from top. I depinned the 4th wire on the harness to get it out of the way.
Yellow wire goes to 85 on the relay
Red goes to 12v ignition on (tapped Black with Yellow stripe wire off cruise control harness)
Black is Ground (tapped Black wire off cruise control harness)
Cruise Control Harness: Black/yellow is 4th from left (12v ignition on) Black is 2nd from left (Ground)
You need to enlarge the cig lighter hole to fit the button. I notched my hole to match tabs on the button. This serves to make the button snug and prevents it from turning around. Takes about 5 min with a dremel.
Some pics to show how the button sits inside:
That's it!! Turn key, push button, and off you go!!

Nice, Im doing this as well. I had an S2000, and did enjoy the push start button. WHen you get a chance, post some pics of the feed cluster illuminated at night if you wouldnt mind. I like the red but am afraid it may look "cheap". What are your impressions?

I'll try and get some pics for you tonight. I personally love the FEED red as it sets it apart from every other cluster out there. The red illumination is brighter than stock and the illumination on the button is the same hue, but not the same brightness. I'll post pics tonight.

Most ppl dont realise theres a reason why the starter button is mounted on the left of the steering wheel in USDM S2000's and on the right in JDM ones. Its so that you can start the car with one hand and put the car in first gear with the other. It makes for a quick recovery should you stall the car on the track. So in the S2000 its functional. Mounted like that is just rice.
Hate to be the n00b and the critic but, its my .02c

Could you make a video of how this works?
From what I read on the last push start thread (over a year ago) I thought you still turn the key over and then push the button.
Do you just push it or do you push and hold it down until it turns over?
Very clean!

huh??
Many exotic cars mount their button on the right side in US cars as well.
koenigsegg has their button mounted in the center console. The SLR benz has their button in the shift ****. The veyron also mounted in the center. Along with many RACE BRED sports cars out there.
Why does the s2k have the radio controls on the left with the button then? LOL
So people can shift and change tunes at the same time?
You do know if you stall the car, you can leave the car in gear and start it up. You dont need 2 hands to get out of a stall situation.
I believe s2k put the button on the left for that porsche feel. As porsche has their key ignition on the left side.

You put key to acc, then push the button.
When you turn the key fully in a regular car, thats what the "push button" replaces, that extra turn from ACC, to START.
So its just key to ACC, then push the button.

I'm wondering if there is a way to have it so you don't need the key at all (although this would be a horrible security issue) just like when you have a remote start module from your aftermarket alarm systems.

Lots of exotic cars have this feature.
A guy over at the supra forums took the lexus system and inputted to his supra.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2n6F-...eature=related
The system recognizes your remote when you get near it, you basically just get in the car, step on the brake pedal and push the start button, just like a lexus.
As far as security, its great. Sure it activates the car when it senses the remote but lets say the thieves get the car to actually start when you're not around, They can drive the car to a certain amount of feet and if the car doesnt sense the remote, it will shut off. So basically they need your remote (same way they would steal your key etc) in order to fully steal your car.
No need to use ANY key whatsoever.
Pretty nice if you ask me, too luxury for an FD though IMO. The s2k push button is as far as luxury should go for our cars. We drive FD's afterall, not porsches

you can probably easily find a scrapped 05 nissan murano. They come with keys that work like this; the key he uses in that video actually looks like the nissan intelligent key.
