removing rust stains from paint

just wondering if anybody knows how to remove rust stains from paint? there doesn't seem to be much i could find on this subject. i've tried a few things, such as basic car wash and scrubing, tar remover, and even vinegar. nothing really seems works. i couldn't find anything at the store that is for this specifically, but maybe i just didn't look hard enough. was going to try CLR, but that probably isn't good for paint.

anyways, if anyone knows or has good suggestions, please post...

i'm going to try CLR out on something other than my car first, just to see if it will work. actually, i don't think it will be too harsh on paint, just have to apply wax again after i do it...

hmm first off....you fixed the rust part right? i am imagining the car had a rust spot and there is a line or streak beneath where the rust was located. i would try some kind of polish that removes oxidation chemically. there are some metal polishes like that. you wan't to stay away from any abrasives unless nothing else works. go check out the water spot thread that was recently posted. i am also gonna go out on a limb and guess that the paint isn't the greatest if there are rust stains in it. if you just want it to look presentable you might try some of turtle waxes color matching wax on that panel to cover it up.

yeah, it was rust from a repaint the previous owner did. the stuff that lies right on the surface. i sanded it down a bit, and put some touch up paint. the spots themselves are really small, but there is a rusty streak on the paint, which is what i want to get rid of. the paint itself is actual pretty decent. i guess i could just try a colour matching wax or even touch up paint, but it'd be better to just take the actual stains off...
