RAttle can paintjobs....
I am really sick of the faded red paint on my car, I was thinking of just wet sanding the car and then wiping it in laquer thinner then masking and rattlecanning the paint on each pannel seperately......Anyone done a rattlecan paintjob and any pics of it done? Not looking for great quality just a uniformed color untill i can afford a decent paintjob, I am going to paint it "gunmetal" and do the engine compartment black......Lemme know and post some pics, i think someone rattlecanned and AE black a while ago.. any pics of that?

I dont have any pics, but i did it to my friends escort once. Umm, i wouldnt recommend doing it with any kind of gloss, because it doesnt blend very well with the surrounding paint. A flat paint worked a bit better, but still didnt really completely match, so i put a cheap spray on clear coat on it, and it worked fine for a little while. Eventually, we just ended up taking the flat red to his entire car and called it good. It all matched and was even and noone could ever tell that it was spraypainted. The only major drawback with the patching and the overall painting, is the spraypaint tries to come off if you pressure wash or try to wax it.

My friends father has been an autobody painter for over 30 years and he denies painting any car which has done this or gone to Maaco.
He says anything that comes in a rattle can is most likely ****.
Just a little food for thought in case you plan on getting a real paint job later.
Also on a spray paint job you won't be able to get a wide enough area each swipe so you might make laps/layers and be careful of dripping.

Oh yeah if you have a couple hundred to spare you can get the Maaco job but every year or two you will have to repaint.
Just make sure you bring the car already prepped like antenna/door handles and stuff masked or removed because the idiots will just spray right over it there.
I bet the veteran painters at Maaco have only a year of painting under their belt.

My friend is also a body man and he said if he went to Maaco for a job he would be a supervisor or master painter and he only has a couple hours of painting under his belt. Mostly body work.
He can go over Maaco jobs and point out everything wrong in a couple minutes.
A real painter can make over 60k a year. I doubt a real one would take a Maaco job unless they spent all their money on meth and got fired from the real places.
The pay isn't the only thing bad. They don't prep cars and usually use crappy paint.

Yeh i am pretty seasoned in rattlecan paintjobs Done a Blazer and my accord's hood...but i have never done an fc, I know i can make it look good. The trick is to prep-well. I am going to powersand each pannel seperately, then mask everything around it, then paint it, Then let that pannel dry, go to the next ect..... Doing the paint in stages each pannel seperate is the way to go, I am going to use the Duplicolor "wheel PAint" it holds up very well and is chip resistant in 7 days.... I'll posgt my progress. I am going to do a few practice shots on some fenders and the hod i have laying around...if they turn out ok i'll post pics...

I did mine, don't have any pics though. Basically, I had never done anything like that before and it shows. I didn't do a very good job of prepping.
I did mine a panel at a time. Keep in mind that everything behind the doors including the roof and excluding the bumper are all one piece.
I've since rattle-canned my computer case. It turned out pretty damn good.

The people I work with beg me to put some paint on my car. My factory paint is so faded. However with the coolant seals going out on it, and a big dent thanks to an old lady, spending money on a nice paint job just isn't going to happen. I did get a quote on getting the car repaired and for that much money I could easily just buy another car.
The rattle can thing sounds kind of interesting.
