Radio issue.. turns off when braking...

Not sure if this is a common issue or not, but I replaced a Pioneer headunit for a Sony I had laying around (newer than the 6yr Pioneer). Before the Pioneer was wired that if I was playing a CD or the radio the antenna was up. So I did it the right way and wired the Sony so the antenna was up when only the radio was on.... I drove it a few times with no problem, the the last 3 times I drove the car I would take a 30min drive sit for a couple of hours then get back in it and when I would come to a stop (braking) the headunit would shut down... this only happens when I am listening to the radio; with a CD or my Ipod thr AUX there is no problem.... Can anyone give me some input on this? I wired it up according to the Sony manual, the only thing I can think of is that the antenna always needs to be up/powered... IDK Any help would be appreciated!

2 quick questions. Does it turn back on after you release your brake pedal? Also, can you try turning on your head light to see if it will shut off the radio or not?

Yes it turns back on, basically I hit the pedal it turns off and comes right back on while the pedal is depressed. Then it may happen again at the next stoppage. What is weird is that it only happens after I drive it for a bit, it sits, then hop back in it.

Headlights do not effect it.... Hmmm well however I never thought about this, but when I drive it initially the headlights are off (day time), and when it happens the headlights are on because I am driving on my way home at night...

How's the condition of your battery? Reason I asked is because I have the same issue. My battery was basically dead, and the alternator was the ONLY thing that was running the electrical system.

Same thing as yours. I hit the brake the radio/cd intermittently would cut off. Sometime i turn on the head light it would turn off. Some time I turn it off, it would not.

I would check how your battery condition is, and see if there's any signs showing that it is tired and needed to be replace. Then I would try and see if the problem still exist.

If it does, then I would start trouble shooting on the wiring that you've done to make sure it is not shorting out somewhere when you brake and a wire would rub against a ground and turn off the radio. Hope this might be helpful. Good luck.

Thanks guys I will look into the battery. Its a new battery well as off last fall, not OEM size but a Diehard 51 series. But what makes no sense is it only shuts off when listening to the radio (antenna up) if I play a cd or my ipod (antenna down) its fine never turns off.

If after checking the battery/terminals, they are okay. Then I would really look into the wiring that you've worked on when setting up the deck. Pay attention to small details at the harness and where wires might be potentially rubbing against any vehicle ground/metal.

Well drove the FD 2nite, I did not touch the battery terminals, I was in a rush working on my daily all day. Anyways had the radio and lights on the whole time no issues with it turning off.... Tomorrow I am going to clean the terminals however I do not think they need it, but will do it anyways.

One thing to mention when the headunit does turn off under braking with the radio on is after I have spent 30mins or so of highway driving... Not sure if that would matter but that I would mention it.
