SD Quite Coat Installation & Observations

I had an opportunity to try some Quite Coat this weekend.
I ordered up two gallons and received the material on Friday.

Friday night I began dissasembling the interior pieces from my car.
Removed all the rear plastics, seats, bins, door panels, and quarter panels.

I wasn't planning on going too crazy and removing the carpet.
Did that a few years back and not really looking foward at doing it again.
Also, I was working in my driveway and the weather wasn't looking too great for Sunday, so I wanted to get as much done on Saturday. Pulling the carpet at this time would have taken too long.

After taking out the interior pieces I did a good vacuum job to get any dirt/debris sucked up and wiped everything down with a damp rag. Instructions didn't really say if a cleaning solevant was needed.

Started in the hatch area first. I read up on David Hayes' thread a couple of times to get an idea of brushes and rollers needed. I picked up a couple of normal brushes in different sizes and a small 4" roller also. The roller didn't work quite as well as I would have wished.
It seemed like it wouldn't spread the material quite enough. Seems more of the Quiet Coat was soaked up in the roller than it was being spread. So I went to work with just a brush.

Didn't go too heavy on the first coat. I painted the entire floor area, most of the rear latch area, and even hit the shock towers. I went as far forward as the middle of the bins.
Moved onto the doors after the hatch area was done.

Doors went smooth. Hit the inside outer skin and the inside skin also. Again I didn't go too heavy at this time. Just trying to get a base started.

Then I moved onto the other door. Same procedure.

We had nice weather on Saturday. 85 deg outside with a nice breeze. Material dried in about an hour to where I though I could start on the second coat. Again, I hit the hatch and doors.
Went a little thicker this time. Drying time was about 2-hours.

Moved onto the third coat and went heavy again. After the 2nd coat you learn a little more on how to apply the Quiet Coat. Not so much as making a nice brushed on finish. More of thinking of trying to add a "layer".

By Saturday evening I was completed and I used about 3/4 of a gallon even though all the areas were pretty well coated. I don't know how much I added in terms of millimeters, but it was definitely caked on there.

Sunday morning everything was nice and dry. Put the interior back together and got it completed about at noon.

Without even thinking I closed my drivers side door after buttoning up the door panel and it made a nice solid 'thud'. AWESOME! Opened and closed both doors about 10 times. The change was evident and unbelievable. More more "twang" and tinny sound. One thing that I didn't do was the inside of the actual door panel. Don't know if that would help out even more or not.

Went for about a 1 hour drive Sunday afternoon and it seems like a transformed car. Hatch is ubber quite and the doors close awesome.

I have about 1-1/4 gallons left. I think I will try and get an undercoating done like David on his thread.

Well worth the cost and a weekend to apply it. Highly recommended!

Thanks for reading, Josh
