easiest way is to get a cassette adaptor. Oh wait, no one has cassettes anymore. You could go Radio Shack and pick up an input jack that you could splice into your speaker wires and then a patch cable to run from the headphone jack on the dvd to your new jack.

Whoa! Don't just start splicing wires!

First let us know what kind of stereo you have.

I have 2 door speakers and 2 rear hatch speakers....nothing fancy.....the current deck i have is clarion DB336MP...its a radio, cd, mp3 deck.......2 channel rca line level output.if that helps

scrap the plan. those 200 dollar portable dvd's are pretty useless. You have to be able to power and charge the thing first off. Best way to do that is with a power inverter hidden somewhere in the car. Weight and space. You've got a 90 GXL. The place where the factory stereo used to go is frickin huge. You can pick up a Receiver/LCD that's a single DIN.

Then in the extra space you can mount.

Holy batshit ratman. A complete mobile theater for only about 350 USD. I didn't realize I could do it that cheap. I know what I'm getting myself for St Patricks Day.

The portable DVD player should have at least an analog stereo pair output that you can connect with RCA's. You'll need something with an analog *input*. As far as I can tell, the DB336MP does not have an analog input (only an output).

You can either get a different deck with an analog input, or get an external amp and switch between the Clarion & the DVD.

That's if you want stereo. If you want 4+ channel surround sound, you'll need a deck (or amp) with a 4 channel analog input (I don't know of one that exists), and a DVD player with a multichannel decoder analog out. I believe Clarion makes a deck with Dolby II decoding, so you could feed it a stereo pair from the DVD and get an analog surround sound... or if one exists, you could use a stand-alone decoder and an external amp.

Or (yes there's more), if you want to make use of a DVD player with a digital out, you'll have to use a deck or outboard DSP with a digital in that can decode to a multichannel analog amp.

Phew

splicing wires has nothing to do with surround sound, yuo have a white and a red output jack....left and right audio.....which is stereo, not a 5.1/6.1 true "surround sound'.....you will only have two channels, which will sound good.

there are two ways to do it:

1: get a reciever unit with an "AUX" input.
2: get a modulator that will broadcast the dvd audio onto an FM station (just like wireless cd changers).

splicing wires on this will not help. if you splice right into the speaker wire, you will mess the impedance up and the volume of the dvd player will be EXTREMELY low, i doubt oyu'll be able to hear it. why? the dvd player has no pre-amp, the indash reciever will amplify, and send it to the speakers, if you go to cutting wires, you're gonna kick yourself in the ***.

a digital sound processor wouldnt have a digital input. thats the exact opposite of what a DSP is, a DSP will take an analog 2-channel (in most cases) source and process it into a fake surround sound...but who can tell the difference?

Try again. A DSP just does the processing in the digital domain, the type of input signal has nothing to do with it. And if you can't hear the difference between a surround field derived from 2-channel and fully discrete multi-channel audio, you need to make an appointment with an audiologist.
