In my opinion I think that if your going to do something like this you should do it the right way.
I do understand the money aspect of it, but you are driving one of Japans supercars. Why chinse out on it. Yes you can put the money towards something else, but if you just wait it out, you could buy some real JDM ones once you save up down the road. New or used.
But for instance when you put exhaust on....do you buy your racing Beat, or HKS etc...or do you buy Reactive cause its cheaper?
When you see a post of someone asking about "clear lenses" for the FD or FC...whats the first thing everyone says??
"your a loser....thats pure rice, dont do that to a seven"
True??
So why is it ok then to do a spray paint circle conversion??
Now when driving behind a spray job..you cant see a difference, its to far away. When parked is a different story. The spray job lens will be flat. The JDM version has a 3D bubble to the circles to give it a more rounded effect
just giving my 2 cents
cheers

I've had both now. The real 99's I have were on my latest 3rd gen when I bought it, so I didn't have to fork out the $450. The biggest thing I noticed is the reall 99's are much brighter. I assume this has to do with the lenses themselves. Maybe brighter bulbs on the conversion would fix this.
Also, I assume the cost of the real 99's is not quite $450 once you sell your old ones. Mayber $250 vs $60 is a better comparison.
Having had both now, I still would pay or do the conversion before I bought the true 99's.

Save your money and spend it on something else, of course if you buy the 99 ones would be better looks but the difference between painted and real ones doesn't worth $450 unless you have extra money and dunno what to do with them....in such case you can give it to me

Anyway, I say spray paint. You won't regret saving the $400+ for the real ones. Some pics of my converted tails that I did in about an hour are in the link in my sig.

But do you have the wheels, recaro seats, red stitched leather steering wheel, boot, e brake, shift ****, cream colored gauge faces, radio, or footrest? I've always wanted to do a COMPLETE Spirit R coversion. I found most of the parts I need for the conversion REAL cheap I just don't have the time.

i don't have all that yet, but i'm sure it'll find it's way eventually. i'm not going for the full jdm conversion, if i wanted to, i'd just buy the car and legalize it somehow. i am going to buy the wheels, but only an inch bigger and a lil wider. i'll prolly pick up most the interior pieces sometime too. as for the lights, i've seen pics of both and seen both in person and u can tell the difference, but thos who don't know any better wouldn't know

I had all the interior pieces except the gauge faces, floor mats, and seats. I even had the radio. Now I'm selling my FD so I sold most of the stuff I had (steering wheel etc.)
