The real 99 lights DO replace the stock lights completely. They come as a complete, fully assembled left and right side light. If you take your current taillights off your car, you'll see exactly how the 99's come (only with the circles inside already). Wonder if that made sense.

if your talking about the actually bulbes then no. the light bulbs them selves stay attached to the wires when you take the lights off. if you want me to help you with the conversion i can give you a few pointers.

Dk what part of so cal are you in? you might have seen my car... i have a black FD with the DIY version... i always leave my parking lights on because the car looks (and runs) cooler with them on

I live in Irvine. Hey BlackR1, I might have seen your RX7...did you go to the GT sports car meet thing in torance? If so did you go on the Los Angeles Crest Cruise with Socal7's? (if so i did too, the stock looking MBM).

I'm a total dumbass!
Looking at thelight instructions I'm missing I couple points apparently
do you leave the contact paper on there?

I'm missing the progression here
First there are the paper circles taped on
Second, the contact paper is over it all?
Third - if the contact paper is covering it all, how the hell are the extra pieces of taped removed?
I feel like an idiot

Let me explain the best that I can.
First, you will tape the paper circles on there to get them *perfectly* aligned.
Then, you put tape around the edges(not touching the paper circles) every 90 degrees. You then take a straight edge and make lines going accross the circles center point AND accross the tape.
Now you remove the paper circles but leave the tape with lines on them on there.
Then, put a square piece of tape where you know the two lines will cross(center of the circle) and then using the lines as guides use the straight edge to make an X on the tape you just put on there. Now you can remove the 4 outer pieces and leave the center piece of tape that has the pinpoint on it.
When you make the circles out of contact paper, the compass will make a little hole in the middle(exact center of the circle).
So, all you have to do is line up the little hole in the contact paper with the X that is drawn on your tape.

Yeah I was at the GT meet and cruise, my car was the gutted one with no interior, and missing headlight (for more air hehe)
I think a MBM was behind me on one part of the cruise and I took a couple early apexes to initiate some oversteer on a few of the hairpins... the guy behind me was following my line and I think I really caught him off guard when I started to slide around was that you? Unfortunately though, i had a cig in my hand so i wasnt able to downshift and my exit speed sucked...so it was more or less tail-out jack assery

LOL that was me behind you on the way back down the mountain. It was my first time doing canyon runs in a car, so its all good. I need bigger tires for sure tho. I was also the guy that passed you on the freeway ride home. Nice car btw....where do you live at?

ahh cool, yeah i remember that. That last leg on the cruise was kind of scary, what with all the gravel and bumps on the road. I had to slow down and take it easy most of the way because i was running super low on gas
Are you and Kevin (Chinese guy with the blue FC with Turbo II hood) friends? He's a canyon enthusiast, and i've been inviting him to come along when we go. You should come out with us some time...we go a lot. I live in Torrance, about 15 miles south of Los Angeles, in Suburbia

Yea that last run was kinda fun, especially when the FD behind me Spun out 2 times. There was a blind turn and we were both entering the turn too fast. I made it but skidded a bit, but he almost ate the big one. I saw the whole thing in my rear view mirror (looked like a intial D manuver) and luckly he barely made it without hitting the mountain side.
Yea me and Kevin are new found friends. We through "a friend of a friend", something like that. Well its always nice to meet some more people in the RX7 community. Too bad I'm going to Taiwan in 1 week, otherwise I would hit the mountains every week. =)

If I use cardboard or like styrofoam, cut out the 3 circles, and glue them on the lights, will the lights produce enough heat to melt the glue? Seems like making some sort of template and gluing them on seems easier.

Just a comment. I used Hammertite Rust Cap Smooth Finish (basically flat black) and I just took a good look at the results in the sun. The finish is textured so it doesn't just look like a layer of paint. It looks like molded plastic, which I think enhances the effect if you are staring at it in the sun (this doesn't happen much).
I have noticed a lot of spray paints that have "texture" or special finishs, and I have used several of them around the home (replainting light fixtures and such) and they are quite cool.
Just a comment on the type of paint.
