PIONEER AVIC-D1 in a fd ?
hey guys,
searched a few different ways but could come up with no threads with this Pioneer unit being used. Does this unit fit our FD's ? Its a double din spaced screen and it fits cars with 2 stereo spots. That is about what we have right?
heres a EBAY link with the auction of one ....

I called pioneer and they said it will fit in a 3rd gen. I am not sure if it would be flush against the dash or if you need a dash kit. The only issue i can see with the AVIC-D1 unit is when the screen comes down to access the cd or nav slot it might come close to the shifter. Here are a few pics installed on a vette to give you an idea what I am talking about. The vette does not have the issues because of the location of the unit. If you are looking for a nav unit I would go with the D1, but if you were looking for something that can also play dvd's, the D1 will not. You would have to buy an additional control and a dvd changer to watch movies. The AVIC-N2 will do it all that is if you like a single din with motorized flip, but that would block your temperature control.

It would be best to take some measurements of your car, and find out how much the screen protrudes outward when its in the disc loading position (what length is the screen dimension?). In gears 1,3, and 5 it may be an issue, but it may not be in others.

Sure does look sweet though! Have you looked into the Kenwood unit? They also make a dual din unit that is touch screen, and i believe it will play DVD, mp3 etc but dont quote me on that.

I HAVE ONE IN my FD. It looks ****. The headunit does not play DVD or SACD or dvd audio. Other than that its a great headunit.
I did have to fabricate a small ring that went on the outside of the headunit because its a little smaller that the opening in the FD. Other than that its a great fit and worth the cash. I have pics on here somewhere...
PS i have a short shifter so the shift **** doesnt come close to the headunit.

I have the Eclipse (not installed). It has has DVD/MP3/CD-RW on one slot and DVD/NAV on the other. It's the only unit that gives you both DVD movie & Nav and it has seperate slots, so you can leave the NAV CD in at all times. I hope it will look alot more flush then that.

It's a nice unit...but it doesn't "fit" in the FD IMO...too much high tech bling. It's like digital temp control. Great to have, but would look soo out of place in an FD IMO
BTW...isn't there someone on this forum w/ that $20K Pioneer touch screen unit that came out like a year ago...he took a pic of it w/ the "Windows" loading screen LOL

^ cd's, MP3, DVD-Movie (not audio) although Crutchfield says it doesn't fit on their website.

yeah, smart +
The JVC with the mini 3" screen is the only unit (I said "unit") that plays DVD audio. In other words, you can record all the MP3's of the internet on to a DVD-RW and have more music then dual changers or a Kenwood Keg.
