I just called my local powdercoating place and they gave me an estimate of $110 per rim! and it would take 2 weeks to finish.. is this worth it? I was thinking of getting some engine parts polished too while I was at it.

It's not hard to rattle can them. Clean them super well, mask off the tires with some newspaper, and spray away. You may get bits scraped off the lip when you have new tires installed, but it'll be minimal and an easy touch-up. You may even be able to prevent the tire machine from scraping the lip by putting a layer of masking tape around the lip beforehand.

I just wanted them to look like the rims came stock with the car you know? I want them professionally done even if it is over-priced. Would powercoating the rims make them withstand a little more abuse than spray job?

yes.. powdercoating will help the rims withstand more than a paint job.. but its not going to protect them from say... curbing or anything. i used to powdercoat out of my garage when i was in the states. doing it yourself is great.. if you have time.. but its NOT CHEAP to get into.. i invested around 1500 bucks just to get started.. and that was buying used tools.. oven.. etc etc. 110 each is expensive unless that includes cleaning, coating, and clearing. depending on the workload.. 2 weeks is a long time at a professional shop. i would usually turn around valve covers in about 3 days.. but thats doing everything myself and working full time. powdercoated parts done right look amazing.. i intend to get tons of crap on my car done.. but i wont be doing it myself.. its just too much of a hassle for me. id rather pay someone else to do it. maybe you can talk to them and see if you get multiple stuff done if you can get a discount.
