i'm praying for a hail storm i really wanna repaint mine a nice dark non-metallic black but i can't afford it now. eventually, i plan on getting everything visible but the engine compartment (door jamps, etc. included) done and then have the engine bay done when i need to swap in a new one. the only draw back to painting now is i don't have any of the body stuff i want for it yet which would mean yet another paint job down the line. oh well, i like my MB for the time being though, its in REALLY good shape and shade.

I have known that you repaired crashed 7's for a while now but this is the first time I have looked at your work. That's awesome. I'm glad there is a guy like you putting 7's BACK on the road.
Awesome.

i paid $2500 to have mine painted titanium grey. i did the majority of the removal and re-installation of body parts. everything was painted except for the engine bay, but it's black and doesn't bother me so much right now. that price also included fixing a shitload of dents and welding a couple holes in the hatch from the old wing

I guess the east coast is super cheap. My 240 was hit in the back and the body shop cut the old panel off, welded a new panel on, fixed a million dings, and a few minor dents, painted it bayside blue with a mirror flake (came out amazing!), painted the engine bay blue with no flake (engine was out already due to an engine swap) and painted the inside of the trunk. All for $2700 and I don't have any hook ups with him I just went in cuz someone reccomended him.

paint jobs vary as much as the price of a house. a great job from a guy with low overhead and a need for the work can be 1200$ another guy can suck and not need the work and have high overhead and charge 6K.

best thing to do shop around and look at their work on others cars. make sure they understand your expectations. if you feel they can live up to them and you like their work. it's probably good.

What type of paint are you guys using to get a complete for $2300?
The shop is charging me cost for the paint, BASF Glasurit. $660 for paint and another $40 for sandpaper, tape, etc...
AMRAAM4, your car looks great, let me know what brand of paint they used. This can make a big difference in cost.

However, it was done by a member from my Grand Am board whose family owns their own body shop.....and is out in the boonies of PA near Pittsburgh....and they have their own 3 car shop attached to the house....and his Dad has been doing it for 30 years
I drove 3.5 hours each way just to get it at a small shop with a low labor rate and "down home" service.

Also, if you want a show quality job, Brian at B&D Auto in Pleasanton is the man -- for almost $10k.

The reason for the high costs on the west coast are the extreame enviromental fees and fines. We are very loosly regulated here in the midwest and in the east. We are not required to have the same amount of enviromental protection equipment as on the west coast.
