all in all, this complete paint job from start to finish took about 3 and a half weeks... only 3 of those day's nothing was done to the car so a good 3 weeks...
this is what they did: sanded, welded, sanded, bondo'ed, sanded, primered, sanded complete car (wetsand i belive), base coated, clear coated, wet sanded for about 2 day's.. polished, waxed... then, about 3 months later, they polished it again and about september when the paint is a year old, they said they will polish it again free... the paint really shines! i havent even waxed it in 2 and a half months!

The guy has a low mileage FD, not a 22-year old FB. It makes a little more sense for him to spend the money on a proper paint job -- if he really needs one, which I doubt he does.
the guy that told me 1300 is that manager of a well known body shop around here..
I suggest you look at the photos in this thread for examples of what a less expensive paint job can look like:

Hey,
my friend just got a paint job recently on his car (not an FD but should be the same, maybe a little cheaper) but he did all the sanding and prep work himself and then he went down to a GOOD paint shop and they quoted him 1500 and another quoted 900. well, anyways, he had a friend who was a retired autobody guy who sprayed it for free, so the whole job only cost him 500 bucks.so i dont know, if you can do the prep work, it'll save you alot of money. hopefully that gives you a better idea. BTW the paint is HOT

Impossible, I don't care where you live. You cannot get a quality paint job for $1300 unless you are getting some kind of hookup. I don't care what kind of cars they work on. Unless they are desparate for business and will work for far less than what the job is worth, that is middling quality paint job at best. Hope you like orange peel, rippling, and overspray.

"Buffing" it isn't the whole story, the car just most likely needs to be fully detailed -- washed, oxidized paint removed (paint cleaner), polished, and waxed.
It's possible you really do need new paint but I would be surprised. Any chance you could post some photos of the areas you think look bad?

If this is your pride and joy. A good paint job can cost 3k on up. All depends on what you want.
I had one of those Macco paint jobs done on my beater work truck. It's ok for my beater truck.
Hides the rust for now.... lol
But, would never recommend them to ever paint one of my cars or beater truck again. Better off using a paint brush and roller.

Take it from a guy who has a car business on the side. Usually people who say they dont need any body work need the most body work. We take it down to the metal and you can see all the dimples from underneath the paint. When we explain we cant lay the paint down as flat as he would like most want us to do a bondo job instead of a quality repair. A very good paint job that will look like a million bucks will cost you close to 4k-5k unless you got a hookup

Heh - I took my dinged up 94 to one of the best shops in town (Boston). I don't think their hourly rate is anything too crazy, but they did specify a huge amount of work, removing glass, taking all trim down fixing each and every ding, etc. etc. etc. (and more etc.). A lot of work. I wish I had the estimate here to tally the hours.
$11K.
Now I'll be looking for a shop that won't need to be quite that fastidious.

i say if your not willing to spend at least 3k on a paint job and your paint is fine (no clearcoat failure, extremely heavy oxidation, cracks, etc etc). go pay 300 bucks for some detailing supplies and read up real well on www.autopia.org . itll work out pretty nicely. ill post a pic of my 93 MPV with original paint and you'll see what some claying, 2 step polishing, and sealants can do.

here are the befores after a good ol' wash. as you can see the paint is in ok-ish condition with HEAVY marring/swirls, tree sap, and some oxidation.
AND here the the AFTERS. 90%+ of the swirls/oxidation removed with 2 step polishing with a PC7424 and poorboys ssr 2.5 polish. and only topped with one layer of meg's #26 wax. give it a try. check out autopia. you'll probably know how to do a full detail on your own after a few days of good reading in autopia.org and your probably going to have to spend around 220-260 (or 300 if you wanna experiment with more waxes for evening better looking paint). oh btw, in the roof pic you'll see some swirls but the swirls isnt the paint, its the plastic spoiler.

i hardly even check out out. no i dont get commision for whoring it out. i just think its a great place for noobs that dont know how to shine their cars up real well, it basically turned the whole paint around and makes it look like new. so dont worry, i dont even like that ******* owner of the site. but there are a lot of really nice pros in there like white95max and scottwax. just want some 7s to shine like mirrors.

Those prices sound just ridiculous. My friends dad quoted me 1200-1600$ for
painting my FD and he does a top job. Usually a paint job here in Finland is
around 1800-2500$.
