Paint job cost question
Ok I was wondering how good a paint job I coild get with 2000 dollars ?? Getting the car painted the same color. Would it be decent ?? if not how much would a "decent one" be ??

I want to know as well. I won't have $2000 to spend on it until next summer, but I would like to know so I can plan ahead.
Actually, does anyone know how much it would cost to completely strip the car apart, sandblast it, and spray anything made of metal with POR-15 or powder coat, followed by paint? I would have to disassemble it at the paint shop because I don't have a garage available (or maybe I could rent a storage unit?)
I spent all day today sanding around paint chips on my hood, putting primer in them, wet sanding the primer flat, and I finally got some actual paint on just as it got dark. I think I may have put the paint on too thick, so I will have to sand it flat and apply another layer, let it dry and sand flat. Then I will have to use rubbing compound followed by glaze followed by this polish/sealant I am going to try called Glare. And that's just my hood! I have the rest of the car to do as well, and I am going to try undercoating the car with some POR-15 (after removing the old stuff with some gasket remover) because the thought of my new baby getting cancer (rust) from the freaking salt they put all over the roads during winter in Iowa is giving me nightmares.

I have no problems with taking it apart and putting it together (I would prefer it that way, since I want to get experience with the entire car) but I would need facilities- I don't have a garage or storage space. Think I could find somebody who would have an empty bay where they would let me dissassemble/reassemble it? Probably not.

Well the secret is in the prep. If you want to save money doing the hard parts, then sand down the original paintjob yourself, fix any dings & scratches, have a local shop spray the base, wet sand it yourself, have them spray the clear, wet sand it yourself.
If you feel uneasy, just do the trunklid first to get an idea of the final product and how it will look. Also get ahold of an auto paintguide book to show you some steps.
