to paint the 99 spec lip or not
OK,my car has been at the body shop getting finished and they are about to paint it...
exterior is going to a fresh Brilliant Black:
99 spec front w/ lip
99 spec spolier
Apex'i sides
oem rear mud gaurds
wondering if i should paint the front lip spoiler BB with the rest of the car or leave it the black plastic. DILEMMA !

considering your car will be brilliant black, paint it or else the lip will be discolored.
now if it were a different color (say red) this would be a different story...

I think both will look good. look at it this way, if you paint it, and scratch it, you have to pay for a new paint job, but if you just leave it the way it is, you can just spray rhino liner on it when it gets scratched.

Paint it. If it get really scratched you can always pull it of and repaint it. Mine is Bblack just like your and here we have unforgiviing roads. It is still without a scratch after more than 6 months.
Painting it will give a much better solid look to the whole front. Want some proof have a look at my site in the RX7 gallery section. The link is below.

Paint it. It will look a lot better with black. Who the hell cares if you have to paint it once a year or even every 6 months? Even I you do scratch it, it's black under the paint. If you are careful, you won't have a problem anyway. I haven't scratched mine in a year and a half and you should see some of the roads and curbs in Japan.

How do you guys scrape the lip up so much?
My car has the PFS front bumper and the lip on that is just as low if not lower than the 99 lip yet the part of it that scrapes on my is the bottom which you can't even see unless you're under the car. My car is also pretty damn low with Eibachs and Tokicos to the point where I have about 2 inches of clearance from the bottom on the bumper to the ground and its still not messed up. .
I'm repainting the bumper when its back from KDR do to rock chips but strangely not on the lip but higher up on the bumper. I'm probably going to use 3M film to prevent this in the future. You could do just that on your lip and be safe.

My setup will be similar to yours.
99 Spec polyurethane bumper with no plate holder from Rotary Extreme
Apexi side skirts
OEM rear mudguards
I'm going to paint my lip because it won't flow properly with the rest of the car. I have a 99 lip on my 93 bumper currently and it is unpainted. It looks fine though IMO because I don't have any sideskirts "continuing" the lines of the car. Here is a good example of what I mean. With the painted lip, the lowest line of the car is smoothly continued all the way around. I agree, on a BB car, it may not be so noticeable, but on my MB or especially on VR, I think it will look much better painted.

This one too, everybody's doing this exterior mod nowadays...posted for the 1,678,434 time like the VR car above. Nice inspiration though.

Please post pics when it is done (whatever you decide to do). I'm curious on how it's going to turn out. What rims are you gonna run with?
