funkspectrum: im thinking of adapting the same design to the fc. a friend is going to loan me an fc headlight setup so stay tuned.

rx74me: the pictures are of the regular 65w halogen kit. the hid kit is $1200 and uses purpose made hid modules. i tried to capture a shot of the road lighting but it was just coming out black on my digicam :/ i may go out to a darker road.

I just wanted to say good work. I'd like to see a bezel..maybe you can create one that is a one piece replacement for the bucket housing as well. That would look pretty clean.

Thumbs up INTERESTING...

Rockshox, I commend your effort. I am more function over form in this headlight issue. The slanted lights is different, eyecatching, and definitely not rice since the function is a true upgrade on stock. Also, the LED treatment in the turn indicators is really exceptional. You have good ideas and I will look you up and mull it over in more detail when I mod my lights, on both my FC and FD.

Keep up the good work and don't let the blowhards annoy you!

I have a red FD, and would be interested in the kevlar covers.... with the lights side by side that is.

Dan

PS. I dont care if they pop all the way up or not, as said before you only use them at night.

I admire anyone who tries to come up with new products, but unfortunately these look like they are still in the R & D stage - kinda crude, but that's my opinion.

I like the stock look and actually like the pop ups. Not many cars have them!

Ever since I tossed in the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs for $25.00 and spent some time adjusting the headlights I've been alot happier, although there still are times when I want MAJOR light output.

These Hella Xenon bad boys fit where the stock fog lights on my touring used to, and cannot be beat for sheer light output. I bought them for $695.00, I know I could have probably gotten a better price......Oh well.

They are simply amazing and take all of an hour to install:

well i dont know what youre basing the opinion that theyre crude on but these are about the 6th version i have made. everything is totally nailed down except the purely cosmetic bezel that i have been talking about. i would not offer a part to anyone else unless i was sure it was finished.

the micro de xenons are real nice, i wanted to use them for my high beam but it wouldnt quite fit. the 90mm unit has a better pattern for a low beam though.

Looks pretty good. I prefer the horizontal fittment. Is it not possible to have them horizontal and restrict how much they pop-up? The bezel does need to look professional. Think CF would be easiest as it comes in a dark weave and wouldn't require painting. Needs to be flush with seals and everything b/c people don't like the idea of rain&dirt getting by the electrical stuff.

Besides that - the LED tail lights look fine!! When & how much. Those will sell for sure! http://www.lighter.net/afe/news.html

As long as they are functional I like them. The pattern looks really good!

The ONLY thing I see strange is the way circle lights look in the square housing. I think that is why the Knightsports light are more appealing to the eye. Since the opening is much less, the square shape is less dominant.

Excellent work. I'm interested in the final product. Keep us posted!

They look good and what you have goin for you is that they are relatively cheap. My only deal is I did wish that they were more like the knightsports and only came up halfway but Im considering new lights so I will keep these in mind. And can you explain why is HID so expensive? Never understood it.

Wael El-Dasher has figured out how to make the lights pop up only half way. He was going to do a write up on the forum with the list of lights that he used. But I guess he decided it is not worth his time. If you want to see how this is done, PM me.

i know how to make the lights open less, the problem is i cant fit everything in there like that. its just not as simple as you guys think.

as far as the cost of hid i know the components are more expensive but i think the manufacturers have more markup on them since hid is so "cool" right now. the capsules cost more, plus you have all the electronics that goes into the ballast, etc.

How are you popping the lights up half way? What's involved exactly?

rockshox, since you have obviously spent a lot of time on teh light subject can you tell me if there is an aftermarket levelling system for HID? i know in europe they are starting to require a link from the suspension for the levelling, but I have heqard of other cars having some kind of dash mount to manually level. Do you have any info on this. I like the HID, though I'm a little hesitant to go with them because I don't want to be one of those guys with the very annoying lights blasting everyone on the road.

I'm interested in what appraoch you are taking with the bezel as well. I think if a person took a bucket with your lights installed then used some foam and modelling clay to sculpt the new bezel opening you could fairly easily create a mold to then lay out your CF, kevlar...or hatever...

Keep up the work

hella does make an aftermarket leveling system but it is very expensive and complicated. auto leveling and lens washers have been required on hid lamps in europe for many years. the reason for this is the huge potential for glare because of the brightness and the blue color of hid light. but if you take the time to aim your hids properly then there should be no problems with blasting other drivers.

the approach you mention is exactly what i am doing for the bezel.

HID Is nothing more than "Hollywood Term" HMI which is a Daylight Balanced Arc Light used to simulate sunlight, why manufacturers try to pass thiss off as new technology while the movie industry has enjoyed them for at least 20 Years... is beyond me.. maybe they're pulling one over on us.... NAHHHH Not from a manufacturer that has a momentary advantage over its competitors... that sort of thing never happens....

I think "HID" technology has been around even longer than that. They've been using them in stadiums forever now. The problem is it wasn't until recently they could turn on instantly, which is required for automotive purposes.

I think Nathan Kwok is right.

However the stadium and street lights sometimes are mercury vapor filled HID.

Honestly, the kit doesn't look "awesome," but it does look good. And honestly, who really cares what it looks like, as long as it WORKS? The kit is awesome in the sense that it'll light much better than the stock system for a fraction of the KS kit. Once you get that CF cover done, I think it'll look 10x better. You can count me in if the price is ~$400 w/ good bulbs inside em.

Wow. How 'bout that. We're in the same industry - roughly (first one I've seen on the boards). And...you were born exactly one day before me. Cool.

Anyway, back on topic. Rockshox, I can't get your page to work right now. Is it down? I'd like to see the pics, as I've been looking at alternatives to the stock lighting for awhile, and found the only thing I'd be happy with were Bellof HIDs.

Post pics in the thread if you've got 'em, or get that site back up!
