New "Alpine DVD while driving" how-to..for IVA-W203

I dont know how many people have posted anything about this already, but I just spent 6 hours out on my 2gen trying how to bypass the new Alpine models so the passenger can watch a DVD while you drive safely, and Im so proud of myself, Im going to post this anyway! For this, you will need 2 rocker style switches (the smaller the better). I bought the ones with the lil LED power on light to show you the on position. Now for the bypass... On new Alpine models, they went a step further on security of their "Watch the Road" program by adding a sequence that must be done to a "T" in order for the monitor to display the DVD. The wires involved are the parking brake lead and foot brake lead. Assuming you also have the same style switches I bought, here is how you connect them. (SWITCH 1) For the Foot Brake lead of the Alpine harness(Yellow/Black), connect it to the "load" terminal of the switch. Then splice into your remote wire you used for the system and run that to the "power" or "12V" terminal to the switch. Ground out the ground terminal, obviously. (SWITCH 2) For the Parking Brake lead of the Alpine harness (Yellow/Blue), connect that to the "load" terminal of the switch, and then run a ground wire to the "power" or "12V" terminal of the switch. The ground terminal of switch 2 is NOT used because you want to be able to toggle a continuous ground!!! Now power on the unit, and insert a DVD. Note that the display is only reading the disc and displaying the folder info. Just wait for the timer on the DVD to start so you know that the DVD is playing. Then, in this EXACT order, power ON switch one, rock switch 2 back and forth two times, then power OFF switch 1. The monitor will then be displaying video. It will display video as long as switch 2 remains in the correct position. It might take you a few times to get it right, but it is a lot easier than it sounds. Hope this is easy enough to understand for ya'll. Now go get bypassing and give your ol'ladies something to watch while youre driving your RX7's!! Brian

I don't think anyone gives a **** if you read it or not. It's just there for someone who does a general search for bypassing Alpine's new multimedia head units. If someone REALLY needs the info, I dont think they'll mind if it's not in paragraph form.

You cant do that with new Alpine decks anymore. I wrote down over 320 different combinations and went through them one at a time with no avail. This is the ONLY way to bypass these units for less that $5. I heard Pioneer, JVC, and Kenwood are all adopting this method for future units, so if that ever happens, im sure bypassing them will be similar to Apline's.
