It's been 3-4+ years and my car has gotten worse. Taken so much stuff off, purchased so much stuff and did not install anything, etc. Keep your head up, be patient, things will come around for you.

2 build up a 3rd gen
Hey well I have been reading most of the posts on this thread and I was interested in what you were doing. Great work so far and I know exactly how you feel!!!!!!
I too am building up an RX7 but have gone a little further in some respects than your own project. For me it is great to see other like minded people spending thier time on making thier project become more than just a car. If i was getting paid for the amount of hours I have spent on mine I would be very rich!!!!!
Anyway enough driblle about that. I purchased a pretty cheap 1992 Auto ex stolen-recovered RX7 and proceeded to attempt to return it to its former glory and then some. So far the only parts of the car that have not ben un bolted at some stage are the front subframe/crossmember and rear subframe/crossmember and diff assembly. have a look at my pics and let me know what you think. I have done all of this work myself apart from spraying the new stock 99/2000 RX7 Innocent blue mica colour.
When I recieved her she was in a sad sad state, dodgy body prep and bad primer job, brakes were missing, seats were missing. Every panel had been hit with a hammer, wires had been cut and the car was basically in a mess. Let me know if you would like me to start my own thread on the ups and downs of my beast to be. I have heaps of pictures as engine bay has been painted and engine is back in the hole now. The list of missing, cut or broken bits is growing every day but I am nearly there and she is of to be coated in a new colour very soon.

couldnt resist
Ok so here are a few more pics before I go to bed for the night.
I managed to pick up some panels off a friends 1999 RX7 that had only done 30,000kms and here is what i managed to get off it:
Both front guards/fenders
Bonnet
Front bumper with park lights
Rear bumper
Adjustable rear wing
Series 8 tail lights
Series 8 factory mag wheels
Series 8 factory shocks and springs
Like i said in my last post i have pulled it apart something chronic, have a decent list of goodies i have got for it and our carport is a total mess, you would swear there was 2 RX7's in parts out there!!!!
Well for some reason I cant upload more pics right now. I will try again tomorrow.

looks like a good project, its good not to just let these cars go since they are so rare its nice to see other people restoring them. as for mien its still on hold cause it needs alot of money to get her where i want her

I'm in the same boat as you guys, spent over $50k. Still spending and not driving after 4 years. Granted I'm reinventing and upgrading alot, it's a roller coaster of good and bad. I'm going to see it thru. Started a build thread in the n.w. section if you're interested. The car is at the builder's house awaiting parts from TiAL. I've only seen it twice this year. I'm going to bring it home to sit in my garage so I can try to move things along. My work schedule does'nt match my builder's and he's too busy. At least, by bringing it home, I can sit in the car, move the wheel and make engine noises.

As for being rare, these cars over here in New Zealand are relitivly common so there are plenty of parts and loads of support from the guys who have them.
I really cant wait to have it all going on the road again but she is a little way off yet, im hoping 2 - 3 weeks but knowing my luck it will all turn to **** somehow......
Anyway im off to re-shape my roof and shave my door locks!!

I decided to make my own rebar instead of paying $400 that could go towards a rebuild
