Maranello Style Hood for an FD
#26
Yea, i had no idea the viper hood is that close in size to the 7 hood..hmm. It's a good idea though. ALso, i checked on the site i posted and they will be selling the scoop separately soon if anyone wants to try that mod.

The Viper "hood" is one piece that includes half of the front fenders, and tilts forward. It also costs about $11k unpainted, from what I've heard...
Ouch.

I hate Vipers cause A) they riped their looks off of the FD and B) people rave about their perfomance when any modded vette, fd, supra, can hang and beat them in every way.
Nick <- only cars I truly hate are Civics and Vipers.

A) The RT/10 was available in 1992 and the 3rd gen. RX-7 debuted in 1992.5 as a 1993 model year. Who copied who? I assume that you're only talking about the "double-bubble" roof on the 1996 GTS? If so, don't you think it's likely that qualified engineers would reach the same conclusions about the aerodynamics of the roof? Many cars have the double bubble, it's nothing new.
Shudder the thought that engineers might learn from someone else's developments. They should have to reinvent the wheel each time, right? I guarantee if you looked hard enough, you'd find that the FD was "inspired" by cars that came before it also, and that Mazda's California design team "stole" some features from someone else.
B) So you have to throw money at one of the cars you listed in order to beat a stock Viper. How shocking. Stock for stock, none of the cars you list, except for the 2002 Z06 are a match for the Viper as far as acceleration is concerned. Sure you can modify an FD to hang and beat them "in every way". Guess what... the Viper guys aren't poor either. They modify their cars also. Let me refresh your memory... Venom 650? Venom 800? Lingenfelter 510? Lingenfelter 540? TNT Serpent 605? TNT Serpent 655? The list goes on. FD owners aren't the only ones who modify their cars.
So that's why you hate the Viper? That's completely rational... NOT.
#33
LOL..Jim, i initially said that was probably what the guy did to make his hood like that and others said, NO, he bought that hood from a dodge dealer. I guess he could have cut it down, but that's a lot more work than integrating the scoop into your current hood.
#34
Wow Jim, your post tried to prove points that I had not said wrong.
A) Yes the RT/10 was produced in 92 but have you ever seen what it looked like before it went into production? The RX-7 FD was vary close to the production model but the Viper didn't even look like the same car. What I am saying is that the designers for the RT/10 had a liking to the FD's looks. The design for the FD was done in late (nov?) of '88 but the Vipers final design was much later. Double-Bubble? The first car that I remember seeing with a Double Bubble roof was a late '60 dotson. It's not like I think the FD was the first car to pioneer it. The C5 has a Double-Bubble roof, and even though I like the FD more then a C5 if I wanted a true performance mechine I would have gotten a C5. But I like the looks and rarity of the FD enough to give up a little performance. But in people's mind when your in a 'Vette your just another *** clown with to much money.
B) What you said here really is... Well first you said "So you have to throw money at one of the cars you listed in order to beat a stock Viper." Then you said: "Sure you can modify an FD to hang and beat them "in every way". Guess what... the Viper guys aren't poor either. They modify their cars also. Let me refresh your memory... Venom 650? Venom 800? Lingenfelter 510? Lingenfelter 540? TNT Serpent 605? TNT Serpent 655? The list goes on. FD owners aren't the only ones who modify their cars." I'm not saying stock for stock a FD out performs a Viper but what you are implying is that a Venom 800 comes along Free of charge and is totally stock. So I'll leave it up to you to deside what you said was. We all know if you put money into a car you can beat one with a higher MSRP it just depends on how much money. I've seen a Civic beat a Viper but does that mean I like the Civic and think it's a better car then the Viper? Hell No. But think about this... How much money did the '93 Viper cost in the day? and how much was the FD? So if you took the extra cash you saved from buying a Mazda (*insert sarcasom here*) don't you think you would out perform the Viper? and even more so with a 02' Viper and a '02 ZO6, you take the money you save on a ZO6 and put it into the car and wha-lah your kicking everybodys ***. Also you are talking about people modding their own FD not people who do it for a living. Bang for Buck the Viper sucks my dick ***** and all it didn't stop there it ate the hair.
So this is why you wrote that post? To waste 5 minutes of your live to make yourself look like know-it-all.
Jim for the most part your a smart guy but sometimes your just... Weird. I would like to see you race Merlin, I know he would eat you alive but still be fun to see some high-dollar-custom-projects race.

Jim, lets end this debate RIGHT now.
I know for a fact that the FD's body was finalized in 88 and the Double Bubble roof was added to the body in 89.
Find out right now exactly WHEN was the Viper's body finalized, and we all know the double bubble roof on the Vipers didn't come out until the introduction of the GTS back in 96.

1) You can't spell for ****.
2) People who say Vette owners are *** clowns with too much money are probably *** clowns themselves without enough money to buy a Vette... think about that one for a moment.
3) No, you were implying that a modified RX-7, Supra, or Vette can beat a Viper (read your own post), and I have to assume you're talking about a stock Viper. I didn't say modified Vipers came free of charge. I said that Viper owners also modify their cars, and can afford to do so every bit as much as a Supra, RX-7, or Vette owner, possibly more so. What works for one works for the other.
Your statement was that a (stock) Viper could be "beat in every way" by a modified car that cost less (one reason you listed for hating for the Viper, remember?). My point is that a Viper can also be modified to beat every car you listed "in every way", therefore your "hate" is totally irrational and misplaced.
4) Most Viper owners could care less about "bang for the buck". They don't have to. The only people who would use the bang for buck argument against the Viper are people who can't afford one. Do I hear jealousy talking?
Funny, I usually hear sentiments like yours about high dollar cars from people who can't afford them, but try to make themselves feel better about their (*insert sarcasm here*) "bang for the buck" cars by stating that they could beat the more expensive car "in every way" for less money. Yeah, but it's still just a Mazda, and an aging one at that. Deal with it.

I'm not arguing that the Viper GTS didn't get the double bubble roof from the FD's design. I'm saying that it's normal for engineers to use successful designs from other cars in the design of new ones, and that the RX-7 shares features that can be traced back to earlier cars itself. A "double bubble" roof isn't exactly a proprietary design feature.
I'm also saying that it's totally irrational to "hate" a car based on one or two shared styling cues. People who make statements like that probably aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, if you know what I mean.

I very much respect C5s and Vipers. I personally don't like the Viper because it is just TOO much for me. It's TOO bulky looking. The C5..well....its like a Supra. Little odds and ends that I know I would not be able to live with like it's ***. Yes, it's silly not to buy a car just because of how it's rear bumper looks, but I'm funny like that I've always been a 911/993 Turbo type of guy. I think of them as innocent looking in a brutal type of way Hey, if someone gave me a C5 or a Viper, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Drive it for a week or so, then sell it, invest the money, and then use what I make to help me purchase a 993 Turbo S

1) I had a few type-o's big deal.
2) You own a 'Vette don't you Jim? That proves my ***-clown theory.
3) Let me make what I was trying to say more clear ... You can make all the cars I listed perform better then a Viper for less money overall.
4) Viper owners are vary easy sum-up... A rich Texan who doesn't know anything about cars buys the most expensive American car and doesn't understand that for 20 grand less Joe-blows C5 can kick his *** all over the track.
5) Let me quote you on: "Funny, I usually hear sentiments like yours about high dollar cars from people who can't afford them, but try to make themselves feel better about their (*insert sarcasm here*) "bang for the buck" cars by stating that they could beat the more expensive car "in every way" for less money." Wow Jim, your soo smart... look at that post and you might notice how little sense it made. Hi, my name is Jim... I think people who know how to spend their money are Viper haters and should be killed for it, cause it's not cool saving money and going just as fast mmm-kay. And guess what Jim, I can't afford a Viper! Holy **** who would have ever known?!?! Maybe that's cause I am 15 years old. So Jim... could you please tell me how you feel knowing that you have wasted X amount of your time arguing with a 15 year old over something you couldn't even win?
Since I hate seeing perfectly good threads go to wasted I'll stop here. Here's a picture to help express how I feel...

Who are you to apply your value system to someone else as if it were the only one? Why is it necessary that someone else has to buy a car for the same reasons you would, or they're "*** clowns" or "don't know anything about cars"?
It's not a budget issue with everyone. Not everyone is trying to build the fastest car for the least amount of money. Some people aren't as concerned about money, or "value", or "bang for the buck". Get the point now?

Jim, we could go on for days arguing about this... Like I said I wanted this to be finished but I guess that's not going to happen, clearly shows your maturity level.
"More than a few, would you like me to point them out to you?" If you feel like wasting more of your time but when you do I would like for you to think about why you edited your last post? Your not perfect either, Jim.
"by the time someone can afford a Viper, they probably don't CARE about "less money overall"." By the time somebody can afford a Ferrari do they care about the bang for buck? Hell no, but at least their not a poser in a car that's to expensive to be cheap and to cheap to be expensive.
"Or perhaps doesn't care, or just wanted one, or whatever his personal reasons for buying a Viper were." Since we're on a personal reasons isn't me hating Vipers personal? Since my feelings are personal does that mean nobody else could or should own one?
"Who are you to apply your value system to someone else as if it were the only one? Why is it necessary that someone else has to buy a car for the same reasons you would, or they're "*** clowns" or "don't know anything about cars"?" Who are you to imply your thinking against mine? Who are you to tell me I'm wrong when I'm not?
"No, I don't think you should be killed. But I do think that you're acting like a jackass, and I think that your comments are typical of someone who, as I stated, has to make themselves feel better about what they have by comparing it to the performance of more expensive cars and saying that they got the better bang for the buck, or that they were more intelligent in their spending." I'm acting like a jackass? Who attacked who? Not everybody agrees with you Jim, that's life so face it. Not to mention what was the point of that little speech?
"Wow, big surprise there. You certainly don't act like a 15-year old..." Wow, what a non-surprise there. Jim is acting like a 15-year old.
I'll leave it up to FlyBye or another mod to decide to close this thread or not, I don't want to get banned for something as idiotic as this.

(P.S. Jim I wouldn't bother bringing up my mis-types and trying to prove something, it shows how much you are grabbing at straws.)

Hey Jim, I hope this makes you laugh:
You know, I HATE Mclaren F1s. Those guys that buy them have no idea that for a 1/10th of the cost, they could have had a car that will beat it in the 1/4 mile and almost reach its top speed.

A bit of comedy relief is good in a person's life
In the real world, you would have most likely been looked at as if you have 3 heads on your shoulders if you would have gone to almost any car club and said:

I saw your original statement, and I decided to leave it alone. I simply told myself "whatever". You see, guys like Jim have bones that statements like that REALLY joggle up, and so, I almost knew he was going to say something about your little comment . I guess I was right

Damnit Schmiddles, get back in my pocket!
That was schmiddy at around 1.5-2 months old. Now he's barely over a year old, and lazy as hell. He's either being horny and un-neutered (not for long) or eating my food and sleeping. What a goofy kitten.
Jim, if I ever get another cat I'll sell ya Schmiddles for the low low price of a fruit rollup! not I love my kitty and hate all other cats.

Hey now, no circle jerkin' here...
"You don't have enough real world experience just yet." I don't see how my experience has anything to do with me not liking Vipers. Does me disliking something cause it makes no sense to me show my immaturity? Let me put it this way... The genuine Scoot hood's fitment is junk... Soo why not get a replica that fits better (in the Viper care makes more sense) and costs less? So I guess I hate the real Scoot hood then. (JoeD: Eat your heart out!) I still think most 'Vette and Viper owners are ***-clowns, why do I think that? Look at the way they drive! like their king-**** or the road, they own everything and everybody I hate that mentality. Don't want to tickle Jim's bone again but that's just how I feel, Live with it.
I never wanted to play with Jim's bone... That's just wrong man.

Yep, we forgive you.
Nick
(P.S. Cute cat Node! I had one that looked exactly like that one...)
