LED Replacement Bulbs for the FD3S

[QUOTE=wtfx100;10054478]Can someone post a pic of these beside the oem halogen bulb plz?
These are now called "Eagle-Eye Tower (US Patent Pending) 11 Super-Power Wide Angle High Flux LEDS". They have a new 7 watt bulb out but I think these will perform better for our application because they have 3 watts of LED power facing forward as opposed to the 7 watt versions which only have one watt. I think this will make the 7 watt units too dark when in the normal "on" position. I think once you hit the brakes they will be great. The question to ask superlumination is how much of the wattage is on during normal and how much is added when you apply the brakes.
Doesn't answer your need to see pics but my money is these will be brighter than the stock units and because they have side facing LEDs in addition to the forward facing units, they will solve the problem Rich had with them not filling in the entire area. I note too late I too have this issue but that is what I get for not testing them at night. FYI -that is why I revisited the issue and now recommend these.

EDIT everything I posted above about the Eagle Eye 5s and the 7s. I just took off my stock taillights to replace them with the SakeBomb ones and I spent some time looking at the way the bulbs light up the sockets. In short, the bulbs point UP not OUT so the Eagle Eye 7s will be the better of the two selections. Why? The 7 has more LED "power" on the sides on the bulb which is what you see from the back of the car. Although the 5s will also work well, because most of the LED wattage will shine UP with these, you'll get a lot of brightness but less consistent light.
In short both will work and be brighter than stock bulbs, the 7s I believe will give you the more uniform light you seek. Try them and I think you will like them.
The ones I had in mine had no LEDs on the sides and worked pretty well. They were brighter than stock but the light pattern cut off the bottom of the lens. Here is video of them versus the SakeBomb LED taillight conversion:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCizIV_MsS0
See how bright the LED lights are on the right hand side but how the bottom of the lens is not illuminated? The Eagle 5 or 7 will solve this I think. FYI - the LED bulbs I used and the resistors for the turn signals are available if anyone has an interest.

BULB UPDATE FOR 99 SPEC TURN SIGNALS!
Not to complicate this but I have now found out the bulb sizes vary depending if you have the OEM (Stanley) turn assembly or the "other" brands. For the OEM ones, use the T20 (7440) in the turn signals and the 194s for the parking lights.
For the "other" brands, still use the 194s in the parking lights but use a BA15 (1156) style in the turn signals. These are what the stock turn assemblies use.
Just swapped out my OEM units for an off brand and found this out.

I purchased some leds from Ebay, took a risk and it actually works great, item number 200489353798.
A bit brighter then stock, much more uniform as well, compared to my stock bulbs. I think my bulbs were near the end of it's life already. Nice thing is the lighting is 360 degrees almost... Drains ~4W as well, not 13W posted on the info page.
Pretty well made too, seems to have a copper heat sink under each led.

^Glad you like those. I think that is a typo with the 13 watts statement. Read further and you will see 3 watts which is pretty bright for LEDs. The design of those looks nice.
For my new non-OEM turn signals, I ordered the following from http://superlumination.com:
For the turn signals (in amber):
7 Watt Eagle EYE SMT Tower
14x(.5) watt High Powered Wide Angle SMT LEDS
These Bulbs have Advanced Surface Mount Technology LEDS + Advanced Patented Circuitry
12 high powered SMT side facing LEDS - 2 high powered SMT forward facing LEDS
Only 24mm diameter x 52mm overall - fits all stock housings
Those should be wicked bright and should also provide a nice uniform light.
For the parking lights:
New 5 Led SMT Tower 194 168 W5W 2825
Outfitted with the latest Super High-Flux SMT Leds
Fully Regulated - Proprietary Circuitry. Protected Under (US Patent # 7,345,433)
The Widest, Brightest and Best 194 168 W5W 2825 Ever Made!
Only 10mm diameter x 32mm overall
I'll post up pics of them in a few weeks.

The Goldstar ones are quite bright for a single direction, works great for the map lights, since there is no reflectors in the map light.
The Super Nova Matrix 5X might actually be brighter, then the 5 Led SMT Tower, I have something similar to the SMT (ebay version) not sure if is same maybe i'll mail you one to test out David, good test to compare the ebay and the legit one. But I have a feeling the autolumination are higher quality.
The bad thing with using something like this is, the lighting will have a diamond effect in the turn signal housing, since the led are direction still.
If you do use a Gold star for daytime running lights, it doesn't use the reflective coating as much as the 5 SMT one, but you do get one strong direction light puts out the same amount of light as the 5 SMT (ebay).

They will fill in the entire circle and are your best bet. Why will they work? Because the bulbs point up so you need something that will illuminate up as well as to the sides to fill the reflector. These meet both criteria and have the most power (7 watts) and more power is always better.
They cost $25 per light. Use the the 1157s for the inside two lights and get them in red to match the lens color. For the turn signals, get the 1156s in amber and you will be good to go.

Yes, you are correct I strayed from my advice here. In my quest to find the best bulb for the center stop lights, I tried all of the high output amber and red ones available but none seemed to work. The reason I went with the ones listed above is the were brighter than anything else I tried and they worked okay. If they made them in amber I would definitely have purchased them in the appropriate lens color.
You might want to try, as an alternative, the 921 MATRIX LED BULBS" from www.superlumination.com instead. They come in amber and red and might work better. They weren't available when I did mine and the ones listed above them, the 921 18 LED TOWER LED BULBS will be too long to fit.

Be my guest. Thought about modifying it but didn't want to ruin a center tail housing.
The rest of the lights came out great. Nice to have real reverse light when backing out a dark driveway.

Hey David, do you think you could take a pic of the Trunk cargo lighting by that festoon?
Also, I don't see the 1156's for the Reverse (Backup) lights you or Rich recommend on Superbrightleds.com

http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...rake-turn.html
Specifically:
1157 Dual & 1156 Single Contact BA15 High Power 3 & 4 Watt LED Automotive Bulbs
Third down on the list I think. Either will work, obviously the 4 watt ones are brighter than the 3 watters, but both will be plenty bright for the job.

Alright thanks. I was talking to Bryan P. this weekend and I told him that when I backup I just cross my fingers and hope for the best because I can't see a damn thing. (Rear 15% tint). And at night in the rain I can't see jack. So on the reverse lights, how much more could you see if you were looking through your rear glass. Just as if you were reversing normally did it increase your visibility?

Here is another option that is 7 watts so should be brighter than the others I suggested:
7 Watt Eagle EYE SMT Tower
14x(.5) watt High Powered Wide Angle SMT LEDS

I think I would try these and see what you think.

Half the battle with the license plate bulbs is cleaning the lenses. Mine were coated with dirt and oil (rotary - go figure) and I was pleasantly surprised with how clean they became. Combine that with the new LEDs and you'll love the new look.

I followed David's post on Page 5 (#104) and everything was PERFECT (Thanks David!).
One odd thing, I ordered 7440 bulbs (Single Element) but was sent 7443 bulbs (Dual Element). I e-mailed as I thought I got the wrong thing - but they said they're the same, just the second element won't be used. I guess LEDs 'know' what to and not to use.
These are in my 99 Markers, which are yet to be installed. So I guess it'll be a couple weeks before I know for sure.
